MATERIALS

Worsted Weight Yarn (Medium #4) (325 yards total)

 MC (main color) head, wings; CC (contrasting

color) beak; AC (accent color) top tassel -
optional

 Black or other color for eyes

Crochet Hook I (5.5mm) – or hook recommended by your yarn
Crochet Hook G (4.0-4.5mm) – or a size or two smaller recommended
Tapestry Needle, Stitch Marker, Fiberfill

NOTES

 Gauge is not important to this project – so you may use other weights of yarn as well. Just make sure you are

using a comfortable hook for the yarn you choose.

 An I hook with worsted weight yarn should give you around an 18” blanket square.
 Use a size or two smaller than recommended by your yarn for the head and wings to make sure the stuffing

doesn’t show through

 Use stitch marker to hold your place when working in continuous rounds
 Beaks should be sewn with the top of the beak hitting about the halfway point on the head. Eyes should be at

the halfway point.

Continue with same increase pattern until you reach 15
rounds (about 17” or desired size). You will be adding 16
stitches per round. You may switch to CC on R15 or
whenever desired. You can drop your yarn and pick it back
up after a color change or cut it off and hide your tails if
you do not want the color changes to show on the
backside of your blanket. Continue with border.

BORDER:

R1: ch 1, sc in every dc, 2 sc in every ch 2 sp, 3 sc in every
ch 3 sp – all the way around blanket, join to first sc

R2: ch 1, rsc in each st around, sl st and FO. Weave in all
tails.

EMBROIDERING EYES

With black yarn sew repeatedly over two stitches that are
next to each other either horizontally or vertically.

To make larger eyes you can also sew multiple times from
the bottom stitch to the stitch next to the top stitch. Then
sew from the bottom stitch to the top of the stitch next
to the bottom stitch. Then sew over the top of the three
top stitches.
