Track Classification
Some MTB tracks have been rated with regard to rider skill level
and the type of obstacles a rider is likely to encounter. They are
marked onsite with coloured track markers showing the track
difficulty rating. Ratings are explained below.
Easy – Yellow Marker
Tracks that can be ridden by RECREATIONAL riders and
children 10 yrs and older. You may see a jump or an obstacle,
but there is always a safe route around it and there may be
some exposed rocks and roots.
Moderate – Blue Marker
Tracks for INTERMEDIATE riders, some jumps and drop-offs,
berms with exposed rocks and roots. Steep 4WD tracks and
usually downhill single tracks.
Hard – Red Marker
Tracks for EXPERT riders. Large jumps, drop-offs, technical
rock gardens, steep sections, close riding through rocks, trees
and gorse.

you turn left, this leads you to Bethunes Gully. If you follow the
road right (past the BMX track), you get to Forrester Park.
Forrester Park
As you head up the main road past the BMX track, there is a
gravel track on your left and goes around the outside of the
soccer playing fields and the dog kennels, and then up to
the top playing field. From there, you head down a Beginner/
Intermediate level track (mostly suitable for kids) in the pines
with a few switchbacks and corners, a couple of small jumps at
the bottom, and a gradual climb to the top carpark above the
BMX track.
Jubilee Park MTB Circuit
This park was first established as ‘Tomlinson’s Paddock’ and later named Jubilee Park to
commemorate Queen Victoria’s Jubilee in 1887. The Jubilee Park mountain bike circuit was designed
and developed by the late Trevor Gerrish (a mountain bike personality) and the Dunedin City Council.
The circuit is known to local mountain bikers as ‘Trev’s Track’. Jubilee Park is a fun, safe and easy
circuit (but still challenging) for parents, children and seasoned riders alike.
How to get there
From the Octagon, head along Princes Street to the Exchange. Turn right into Rattray Street, then
into MacLaggan Street, past Harvey Norman on the right and The Warehouse on the left. Ride up
Serpentine Avenue for about a kilometre and then turn right into Maori Road at the four-way
intersection. A Jubilee Park sign is located about 100m up the road on the right. There is a small car
park on the edge of the playing field for vehicles.
When you get there
There’s a single loop track forming a rough figure of eight. This track is fun for riders of any ability and
ideal for families. It is recommended mountain bikers ride in the direction of the arrows shown on the
map.

Most sections are rated EASY. If done at pace or at night (with lights), they would be rated MODERATE.
