9

Type the email addresses to which alerts are to be sent in the
To, Cc and Bcc boxes, as required. Also, type an address from
which to send alert emails and click OK.

10

Click Test configuration to send a test email, using the new
settings.

11

After the email details are setup, select the metrics that will
trigger email alerts. This must be done for each MetaFrame XP
Resource Manager server. When a metric changes to a status
that triggers an email alert (for example, a red alarm),
Resource Manager sends an alert, through the SMTP server.

Step

Action

For individual servers, an administrator can define a
specific set of mail recipients who will receive the
alerts instead of, or as well as, the mail recipients
identified for the entire server farm. An administrator
may do this, for example, to send alerts to a specific
person for a high-priority server. Use the Resource
Manager Alerts Recipients tab in the server Properties
dialog box.

Installing MetaFrame XP Provider for
Microsoft Windows Management
Instrumentation (WMI)

Microsoft WMI
Overview

Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provides system
administrators with a single consistent object-oriented interface to
monitor and control large, complex enterprise systems, applications and
networks.

WMI consists of the following components:

‹

WMI Provider extracts management information from the underlying
system and presents this information to a WMI Consumer.

‹

Common Information Model Object Manager identifies the WMI
provider that can supply information requested by a WMI Consumer
and passes the requested information from the WMI Provider to the
WMI Consumer.

‹

WMI Consumer is a management tool such as the Microsoft
Operation Manager (MOM), an MMC snap-in used to present
information .

For more information on Windows Management Instrumentation , see
the Microsoft web site at http://www.microsoft.com.

MetaFrame XP Provider
for WMI Overview

The Citrix MetaFrame XP Provider when installed on a MetaFrame server
extracts information about the server and when appropriate also
provides information on the server farm that the MetaFrame server
resides and presents this information to the WMI consumer for display.

The Citrix MetaFrame XP provider allows the administrator to:

‹

Logoff a session

‹

Disconnect a session

‹

Send messages to users

MetaFrame XP Provider
System Requirements

To install the Citrix MetaFrame XP Provider the following must be
installed:

‹

MetaFrame XP for Windows Version 1.0 or higher

‹

MetaFrame XP Feature Release 2 or higher installed on each server

‹

MetaFrame XP Feature Release 2 or higher licenses installed and
activated

MetaFrame XP Provider
Installation

The MetaFrame XP Provider is installed automatically as a part of a new
MetaFrame XP with Feature Release 3 installation. An administrator may
choose to not install the MetaFrame XP Provider during the Component
Selection phase of the MetaFrame XP with Feature Release 3 installation.

The Citrix MetaFrame XP Provider must be installed on
every MetaFrame server in the server farm that the
administrator wants to gather information on. Also
Hotfix XE102W011 must be installed on every
MetaFrame server the administrator wants to gather
information about.

servers and server farms, and to identify trends and performance issues
occurring on MetaFrame servers and published applications.

The Citrix MetaFrame XP Management Pack consists of two main types of
views:

‹

Health monitoring provides administrators with real-time event and
alert information, along with performance monitoring details about
MetaFrame XPe servers and server farms.

‹

Discovery provides administrators with an overview of the structure
of the MetaFrame installation, along with information on individual
MetaFrame servers.
