through Win95/98 or alternatively you can add the following lines to
your config.sys file.

To do this, type the following from the DOS command line: -

c:\
cd\
edit config.sys

then add the following lines: -
c:\windows\himem.sys
c:\windows\emm386.exe

Then save the file and reboot your PC for the changes to take effect.

GAMING ADVICE
-------------

This is intended to just get you started if you are having problems.

Firstly, don't go wondering around in big groups of infantry. They are slower than your enemy is, and you will get hacked into worm feed in no time. A more sage approach is to allow your infantry to entrench on top of a hill with a good field of view. In the meantime use a vehicle, initially a hummer, later a piranha, to go and find the enemy troops. When contact is made make sure they see your scout and start to follow it. Run off to your entrenched troops, leading the enemy into a well placed ambush and bobs your uncle.

Do not use commanders in your front line, the enemy will concentrate on eliminating them first, causing you to lose the bonuses associated with these characters.

When researching, try to follow a research route through to completion before switching to another subject. This prevents you from getting confused as to what you are doing. You should always research as much as possible before progressing to the next set of battles.

Do not fight the final battle on a map until you have taken ALL the resources from the map.

It is better to over allocate resources to research, since any excess is provided as cash at the end of the research project.

Do not upgrade all your troops at one go, since if the enemy carry out a surprise attack you will not be able to field any troops to halt his attack.

At the start of a new battle it is advisable to save the game after your initial troop deployment, as if it all goes hideously wrong you will be able to quickly start again.

Don't just buy new units, upgrading existing ones will allow you to keep most of there combat experience whilst providing them with better equipment. At the beginning of the game, once you have a total of 9 units, you should upgrade any light or heavy infantry to commandos or mortar troops

Do not purchase loads more units than your rank will let you deploy, it is better to concentrate on the quality of your troops instead of their quantity. To start with, just purchase mortars and commandos, 4 of each seem to work best. Then just deploy them with your hummer. This is the best starting force i was able to come up with.

Finally, on the very first battle there is a unit of commandos trapped in a wooden encampment. If you can find them they are the only unit you can take with you from the first battle. They are also mightily powerful, making a great addition to your troops in the early stages of the game.

KNOWN PROBLEMS
--------------

The following "events" have been witnessed at various stages in the game's development, some were not repeatable on a regular basis, others are "live" bugs or problems. We are 99.9% sure most have been eradicated, but we have provided the information to help you quickly overcome the problems should they arise.

It incorrectly displays in 800x600 on the Matrox Millenium (PCi), Matrox Millenium2 (PCi), Matrox Millenium 2 (AGP), Number nine Motion 771 (S3 928), Number nine Revolution 3D (AGP), Number nine 928 GXE (PCi). You should use 640x480 and 1024x768.

With a Permedia 2 graphics card, switching from 640x480 occasionally caused the screen to blank.

Using Cirrus Logic video cards in 1024x768 would occasionally cause the cursor to leave a trail on the screen.

The setsound .exe could not configure the Aztech Waverider pro 32 soundcard.

At the time of going to press the Creative Graphics Blaster Exxtreme does not work with the game correctly. If you use the latest drivers and the special edition version of Scitech Display Doctor from www.creativelabs.com it lets you play the game in 640x480 mode only with some screen corruption.

On some ESS audiodrive soundcards (i.e. ESS1788) you will have to manually choose an ESS card as it will autodetect a SoundBlaster 16.
