Build Your Own

Build Your Own "Edible" Monster

What you will need: Edible Monsters (unassembled), chocolate frosting, toothpicks

How to set up: Before the party, create the Edible Monsters (create the heads and bodies and place the body parts on two separate trays or plates). Provide the guests with two large, two medium and two small unopened tootsie rolls and a toothpick. Have the players unwrap the tootsie rolls.

How to play: Invite the party guests to play Frankenstein and create their own "Edible" Monsters. Bring out the trays of the marshmallow heads and the decorated Ho Ho bodies, and instruct the participants to use the toothpicks to spread the frosting on the marshmallow heads, tootsie roll arms, legs and feet and stick them to the Ho Ho bodies.

Tip: This activity can be turned into a race to assemble the monsters (have the players unwrap the tootsie rolls before the race begins, and you can even allow the participants to create their own monster faces - provide each guest with their own tube of decorating gel).

Pumpkin Patch Surprise

What you will need: Candy-filled tissue paper pumpkins, one small Halloween toy (a miniature pumpkin, ghost, cat, etc.), and a Halloween related prize (a Halloween book, movie or a Lollipop Figure.

How to set up: When creating the Candy-filled tissue paper pumpkins, add the Halloween toy to one of the candy cups

How to play: Place a pumpkin on each guest's party plate, and when told to go, have the guests rip open their pumpkin. Everyone who participates finds a cup full of treats, but the guest who finds the Halloween toy gets a Pumpkin Patch surprise (the Halloween-related prize).

Tip: For a special touch, you can decorate a kids table like a festive pumpkin patch: (1) Cut a styrofoam sheet to the size of the kid's table, (2) create place mats by cutting circles out of green construction paper or poster board approximately the size of the party plates for each place setting, and glue one onto the top of the styrofoam sheet at each place setting, (3) glue green crinkle paper onto the styrofoam sheet to cover all the white areas on top and on the sides - leave the green place settings uncovered, (4) cover a small branch with black spray paint and let dry and insert the bottom of the branch into the center of the styrofoam (5) decorate the branch with orange and bright blue tulle (festive looking tulle with silver strands running through it is even better), and hang Halloween figures or cutouts (to create bright and cheerful Halloween figures you can add colorful glitter to the edges of the cutouts - drizzle glue around the edges of the cutout and sprinkle silver or bright blue glitter over the glue, let dry and shake off excess) from the branches, (6) place the party plates (green plates work well) on the circle mats and place a pumpkin on each plate.
