CHICKPEAS

1 _____ Chickpeas are very healthy. They are excellent for vegetarians because they give you the goodness that you miss from not eating meat - but without the fat. They give you energy and they are very tasty.

2 _____ Nowadays, they are eaten all over the world but a lot of chickpea recipes come from the Mediterranean area. The biggest producer of chickpeas, though, is India where many people don't have enough money for meat.

3 _____ It's almost impossible to describe. Although they are called peas, they aren't like green peas at all. I don't think there's anything else they really remind you of. They're different to any other food.

4 _____ They are but you need to be prepared. It is best to put them in water overnight and then boil them for about an hour the next day. If you don't, you will have to boil them for a long time to make them soft. After that, they are no problem to cook.

5 _____ There are several different ways. One of the most famous recipes is the falafel. You need to boil the chickpeas until they are soft, mix them with onions and eggs and make small balls of the mixture. Then you fry them and eat them with bread and salad.
