Subject: GM 4.3 Liter V-6 Cylinder Head Changes
PREFACE
The 1992 GM 4.3 liter series (2KM) introduced a change to the valve train by incorporating non-adjustable
valve lash. This change required a new metric rocker arm stud P/N 1358677 plus a new rocker ball P/N
1358044 and a M8 x 1.0 MM nut P/N 1358043. See Figure (1).
The valve lifter, push rod and rocker arm did not change. This arrangement is current thru 1994 (4LM)
engines.
CYLINDER HEADS
If a GM 4.3 liter cylinder head is purchased thru the Hyster Parts Depot all previous and current part numbers
are superceded by P/N 1367479 cylinder head kit. This kit contains (6) P/N 1376893 M10 x 1.0 MM self
locking nuts and (6) P/N 1358044 rocker arm balls. The rocker arm stud P/N 1360868 is threaded into the
cylinder head and requires valve lash to be adjusted.
This arrangement will work with all engines through 1993; but valve lash must be adjusted. See Figure (2).
SERVICE NOTE
If the non-adjustable valve lash arrangement is desired, P/N 1367479 cylinder head kit can be altered.
Remove (6) P/N 1360868 rocker arm studs in each cylinder head. Install (6) P/N 1358677 rocker arm studs
and (6) P/N 1367478 rocker kits on each cylinder head.
Rocker kit P/N 1367478 contains (1) P/N 1307964 rocker arm, (1) P/N 1358044 rocker arm ball and (1)
P/N 1358043 nut.
