Carcassonne Central expansion by Scott

Manorialism was a political, economic and social system in medieval and early modern Europe;
originally a form of serfdom but later a looser system in which land was administered via the local
manor. The lord of the manor usually styled himself with the title of baron.

ADDITIONAL RULES

Preparation

Use 2 castle tiles with basic Carcassonne and up to two large expansions. Add an extra castle tile for each large
expansion used thereafter, up to a maximum of 4 castle tiles (i.e. 2 tiles with basic Carcassonne and up to two large
expansions, 3 tiles with three large expansions, 4 tiles with four or more large expansions). Large Carcassonne
expansions are: Inns and Cathedrals, Traders and Builders, The Princess and the Dragon, The Tower, Abbey and
Mayor and The Catapult. At the beginning of the game, mix the extra tiles in with the other regular tiles.

1. Place a tile

The new land tiles are placed in the usual way.

2. Deploy a follower

A follower may be deployed to a castle as a baron.

1

The baron is not considered to be part of the city or farm in

which his castle is located. As such, he cannot be seduced by the princess if playing with the Princess & Dragon
expansion. If the baron is removed during the course of play by the dragon or a tower, a player may use a magic
portal to deploy a new baron to the castle, if the castle is not yet completed.

1

Question:

What followers can I place on a castle?

Answer:

You may place the regular follower, big follower, or the mayor on the castle. You cannot place the wagon, barn, pig, or builder on a castle.

2

Question:

Can I move a follower from the city of Carcassonne to the castle?

Answer:

No.

3. Score completed castles

A castle is completed when it is surrounded by 24 land tiles in two concentric squares. The player who has a baron
in the castle immediately scores 50 points – 2 points for every land tile. After a castle has been scored, the baron is
returned to his owner.

Feed the Dragon

If playing with both the Princess & Dragon and The Tower expansions, when the dragon enters a tile containing a
tower with a follower on top, the owner of the follower on the tower may feed one of his prisoners to the dragon to
prevent his follower from being removed. The prisoner is then returned to its owner for future use. If the owner of
the follower on the tower has no prisoners, his follower is eaten by the dragon and removed from play as per the
normal rules for Princess & Dragon.

Final Scoring

For every incomplete castle the owner scores 1 point for every segment. As soon as the castle has been scored, the
baron is removed.

0.7

More rule clarifications.

0.6

More rule clarifications and footnotes.

0.5

Changed title from Castles to Lord of the Manor to avoid confusion with another expansion titled Castles.

Clarified what happens to the follower on the tower when feeding the dragon.

0.2

Plugged a loophole found by Joff, and clarified numerous items identified by Novelty.

0.1

Created first draft.
