The Spirit of Truth

"If ye love Me, keep My Commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him [see Do You Know Him?]; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see Me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in My Father, and ye in Me, and I in you. He that hath My Commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth Me: and he that loveth Me shall be loved of My Father, and I will love him, and will manifest Myself to him." (John 14:15-21 KJV)

"the Father that dwelleth in me"

The Holy Spirit of God is the Spirit of Truth because "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; But hath in due times manifested His Word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour." (Titus 1:2-3 KJV). On the other hand, The Spirit of Antichrist is by definition a liar - it denies Christ, Who not only spoke the Word of God ("the words that I speak unto you I speak not of Myself: but the Father that dwelleth in Me," John 14:10 KJV), but He was The Word of God ("In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God ... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth," John 1:1,14 KJV). It is by the Word of God that we are to "prove all things."

"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error." (1 John 4:1-6 KJV)

The Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit of God, comes from God. The Holy Spirit of God is not a "he" or a "person," even though it is translated into English as "he" - that is merely an inappropriate translation of how the Greek language (other languages do as well e.g. French) uses grammatical "genders" - English doesn't use grammatical genders.

The Holy Spirit can be accurately referred to as "He" in another way however - it is God's Spirit, that comes from The Father, so the "He" is actually God, not a separate entity of a "trinity." That is what Jesus Christ was referring to in the verses quoted above. The Holy Spirit in Christ was "the Father that dwelleth in Me" (John 14:10 KJV). Christ's Name "Emmanuel" ("Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us" (Matthew 1:23 KJV) literally means in man is God and refers to the same thing because Christians have the same Holy Spirit that Christ did i.e. "Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all" (1 Corinthians 12:4-6 KJV)

"But now I go My way to him that sent Me; and none of you asketh Me, Whither goest thou? But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you. And when He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on Me; Of righteousness, because I go to My Father, and ye see Me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come." (John 16:5-13 KJV)

Today's Word

The Holy Bible was primarily written in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. Today's Word examines the pronunciation and literal meaning of one of those actual words of the Holy Scriptures and how it is usually translated into English-language Bibles.

The Hebrew word pronounced yaw-ray means fear or dread. It is most often translated for use in English language Bibles as fear or afraid.
