DESCRIPTION OF PRACTICE (TECHNIQUE / SKILL)

The server throws the ball at head height towards the goalkeeper.

The goalkeeper catches the ball, throws in back to the server and rotates to the back of the group.

The next goalkeeper then takes position in the front gate and the exercise continues until the coaches stops it.

Once the coach is satisfied, he instructs the server to throw the ball at the goalkeeper's midriff.

Finally the coach asks the server to mix his throws from head height to midriff, forcing the goalkeeper to make a decision.

ORGANISATION:

Two gates positioned 1m apart and approx 3m from goal.

One goalkeeper stands in the first gate and the other goalkeepers stand in line behind the second gate.

A server stands holding a ball approx. 4m in front and facing the goalkeepers.

Spare balls are placed beside the server.

KEY FACTORS:

The goalkeepers balance, shape must be correct and he must be in the set position when the server releases the ball.

The must be caught at head height using the W shape.

The arms must be flexed to become shock observers, allowing the ball to stay securely fixed in the hands.

When catching the ball at midriff the hands must be in the tucked position allowing the ball to be secured using the stomach, forearms and finally the hands.
