MND takes place in two places - Athens and the forest. What do these two places represent? In particular, why does courtship take place in the forest, but marriages back in Athens?
Actually, I don't have any idea and since there's no information about this issue on the internet, I can rely only on myself.
As far as I'm concerned, all the events that are real and without any connection with magic take place in Athens. The forest is a place where strange things happen, people think it's a dream and everything seems to be so unreal, bizarre. It's like a division between reality and dream.
