  1. Do you think that famous people have the right to privacy? Do you agree with the statement that celebrities have chosen their way of life and therefore have to pay for it? Do you like reading gossip columns in magazines? Why/why not? Do you think that there is anything wrong with gossiping about celebrities?

I think that famous people have the right to privacy. They’re humans just like us. They want to spend their free time with family and not with the paparazzi. But on the other hand they knew that their life will be on the spotlight. People will be watch every their moves. But I disagree with the statement that they have to pay for their way of life. There are many actors and singers who want to focus only on their work. They don’t go to parties and tv shows. They don’t sale their stories to the newspaper. I think that these people have the right to privacy. They’re only famous from their work and talent. I think that the celebrities, people who do anything for the spotlight they even don’t want the privacy. They want people to talk about them. I need to confess that I read sometimes the gossip columns. I do this because I’m bored. And that’s it. I prefer reading Focus magazine. I’m interested in world’s problem. I’m not interested in what celebrities wore today. But I don’t think that it’s wrong. It depends on people. Everyone has different hobbies. Someone likes politics and someone likes reading about celebrities.

  1. What do you know about unemployment in Poland? Why is unemployment a serious problem? What measures should the government take to counteract unemployment? What are the possibilities of finding a job? Where can you look for a job?

Unemployment is a serious problem in Poland. Many of people are seeking for a job to earn some money to survive. Truth is that if you don’t have money you’re nothing then. If you want to live in your home you must pay for bills, if want eat you must buy it first, so everything is connected with money. Because of high unemployment the government should keep in good condition nationals workplaces, e.g. shipyards, steelworks which are giving many permanent and well paid jobs for workers. Another way to decrease level of unemployment is allocation credits for those who have a business plan. Who knows, maybe some of these people will be employers for another people? How about possibilities of finding a job? It’s hard to say, because it depends of your education. If you have graduated a University I think that it will be no problem to find a job. Every kind of skills, experience and individual personality is very helpful. If someone is looking for a job he or she should start in employment agency. They’ll find a good job which suits his or her skills.

  1. Is technology a blessing or a course? Justify. Which inventions do you think were the most important ones in the history of humankind?

In my opinion technology is a blessing. For me technology is very helpful and can make our life easier. For example a cell phones. We can talk with everyone whenever we want. Few hundred years ago people had to wait a long time to receive the letter from their family or friend who lived in another city. On the other hand technology could be a course. People are addicted to internet, tv or cell phones. In few years later paper will be replaced by electronic. Maybe people will be replaced by robots. We don’t know our future. In my opinion the most important inventions were light bulb by Thomas Edison and internet. They are using these days by almost everyone on the Earth. I can’t imagine life without electric light. Thanks to the internet we can meet people with the same hobbies without leaving home.

  1. How often do you shop in hypermarkets? Do you like shopping in hypermarkets? Why/why not? What are the advantages of supermarkets over small shops?

I rarely shop in hypermarkets, because I don’t like it and they’re far away from my home. It takes a lot of time to find things which I would like to buy. Also I don’t like crowds in shops. I prefer doing shopping in local groceries. On the other hand in hypermarkets there are more things. You have bigger choice and lower prices.

  1. What is advertising? Do you think it is necessary at all or you would call it an unproductive industry? Do you think that advertisements distort the truth?

Advertising is a form of communication used to encourage an audience to take some action for example: to buy some product. There are a lot of kind of advertising. The most popular are: Print Advertising: in Newspapers and brochures, Outdoor Advertising - Billboards, Broadcast advertising – tv commercials. I think that advertising is necessary because of that, we can choose the best goods or services with many available on the market. Apart from promoting commercial goods, advertising can also be used to educate and motivate the public about non-commercial issues such as AIDS, deforestation or something like that. So many adverts are funny. For example the Neostrada’s commercials with the Brain and the Heart. Customers easier can remember them and associate with specific product. On the other hand, the biggest disadvantage of advertising is the fact that adverts very often supply wrong information. Producers use a lot of ways to attract people. These ways aren’t always honest. To sum up, the advertising is an unproductive industry. It doesn’t make any products but it is useful. I don’t like adverts because they appear in the best part of movies in TV, they appear in my favorite websites. Sometimes they are stupid and don’t show whole true about goods or services, but I owe them to particulars about products which I always buy.

  1. What is nuclear power? Are you for or against it? Justify. What are the dangers of relying on nuclear energy? Suggest some alternative sources of energy.

Nuclear power is the use of sustained nuclear fission to generate heat and electricity. Many nations use nuclear power plants to generate electricity for both civilian and military use, and some nations also utilize nuclear power to run parts of their naval fleets, especially submarines. Honestly I’m not for expansion of nuclear power plants or against it. Nuclear power has many advantages and also disadvantages. For example this form of energy is cleaner than fossil fuels because it don’t produce air pollution. Also it produces huge amounts of energy from small amounts of fuel. On the other hand there are a lot of dangers of relying on nuclear power. It can cause radioactive waste, become dangerous if manual mistakes happen. For example the explosion of Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plants or earthquake and tsunami in Japan which caused nuclear meltdowns and releasing of radioactive materials. That’s why I think that the safest way to get energy is using alternative sources of energy. For example solar energy, which is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. Currently, the biggest issue with solar power is the cost, since the solar cells and panels can be very expensive. Another alternative energy source is wind energy, which uses large wind turbines to transform wind into power. Some alternative sources of energy receive power from earthly sources, as in geothermal power and biomass. Geothermal power is derived from heat sources within the earth, such as natural geysers, and converts this heat into electricity. Biomass energy is obtained from organic material that comes from plants and animals.

  1. In what situations are we most subject to stress? Justify. What are the consequences of adopting a stressful lifestyle? How to cope with stress most effective?

We are subject to stress in important for us situations, f.g.: passing exams, in a job, at home. Now I’m very stressed out because I’m scared that I would make mistake and I will not pass this exam. But I need to pass it. The pressure and many kind of dangers paralyse us. The stress has very negative impact on our health. Not only in biological sense but also in psychological. Consequences of adopting a stressful lifestyle are for example: poor health, depression or even sometimes a heart attack. When we’re stressed we’re seeing everything only in negative. To overcome our fears and eliminate a stress important is to do sports and take care about our physical condition. And the most importing thing is positive thinking and believing in yourself.

  1. Are you proud to be a Pole? Why/why not? What are the positive character traits of Poles? What are the classic Polish vices? What practical skills do Poles lack?

I’m proud to be Pole. We have great and interesting history. Maybe it’s not perfect but we should be proud of it. Also I’m proud of the famous polish people for example the pope John Paul II or Lech Wałęsa,Chopin, Maria Skłodowska-Curie etc. I could make a very long list. is no doubt, we have weaker and stronger points. Some praise us, some hate us. We want to be perceived as great nation, but not always it is. Foreigners label as "thieves" and "cheats". Sometime is true, but sometime we are just too clever. Also many foreigners mistake us with Russians because we like vodka and we have similar language. In my opinion our weakest point is pessimism. We complain about everything. Polish people seem to be gloomy, unenthusiastic and unfriendly on the surface. But we have a lot of positive traits. For example we are very hospitable. There may be no money to live on but there will always be enough money to dazzle their guests. We are patriotic and religious. We are not lazy. Our specialist are respectful all over the world like builders, computer scientists, engineers, doctors, etc.

  1. What is ’cyber-addiction’? What are the negative consequences of ’webaholism’? What makes on-liners addicted to the Net? Are you addicted to the Internet?

What "cyber-addiction" means? I think this is just very simple. When you get hooked to the web for unusually long hours and you find it very difficult to get up to do other things, you might be suffering from cyber addiction. All users of the internet are capable of developing webaholism. The Internet is time consuming and you can easily get addicted to it. Many people sit long hours in front of the computer screen and they don’t even relies they might be addicted. Addiction can be destructive. An addicted person is often upset and aggressive, when doesn’t have the access to the Internet. The more time you spend online, the less time you have for your family and loved ones. Those who can’t take it will leave you and by the time you realize, you are alone. What makes people addicted to the Internet ? There are a lot of things now being offered online. You can shop, listen to music, watch movies and chat with friends. And the most interesting of it is that you can do even all this at the same time. Am I addicted to the Internet? To be honest I am addicted to the Internet. I love listen to music and watching tv shows. I spend a lot of time on it. But when I need to study I’m always study first and then I can spend my free time on Internet.

  1. European Union: What do you know about the European Union? Are you satisfied with the fact that Poland joined EU? Why/why not? What are the advantage and disadvantage of being the EU member?

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political union of 27 member states which are located primarily in Europe. Poland was accessed to the European Union in May 2004. I’m satisfied with this fact. Small businesses got grants from EU. Also there are no anymore traffic on border because it’s opened. The EU is a great chance for young people like me to find better jobs or better education. It is possible to work, study and even live in any member country. On the other hand, products are more expansive. I think that’s the biggest disadvantage because it could cause economic crisis.

  1. The mass-media are used to manipulate people. Discuss.

Truth is that many of mass-media are used to manipulate people but why? Main reasons are profits, views and taking control. I don’t know why people believe in everything what they see. Everyone of us must be watchful and have his/her own opinion. Sometimes the truth is so different in comparison like medias shown.

  1. What would you like to do when you leave university? What would you take into account when looking for a job? What are the expectations of Polish students as far as career prospects are concerned?

When I leave university I would like to find a well-paid job. For example I would like to work in warehouse. When I will be looking for a job I will take into account the payment, career development and company’s image. The most important thing for me is the getting job in logistics trade. Many young people dream of entering the labor market in an effective way and getting a satisfying job that would enable them to develop. More and more people are becoming aware of the fact that in order to be successful in this sphere of life, they must plan their career as early as possible, receive proper education, gain qualifications and abilities that satisfy the requirements of modern economies.

  1. What are the so called community websites? Why do you think they’ve grown so popular? How do you think they’ve changed human communication and interaction? What are the advantages of such websites? Do they have any drawbacks? How do they work? How are they similar to and different from one another? Choose 2-3 community websites and compare them. Are you an active of any of them? Why/why not?

The so called community websites are websites on the Internet that are created to entertain their users and to enable them to communicate with other users. Such websites have recently grown very popular because people are getting more and more used to using new technologies in casual life. So they use them to contact. Also people are curious about others life. On these websites you can follow someone’s life. You’re able to know what they’re doing right now or what’re thinking. I don’t think that community websites have changed human communication drastically. They’re another way to communicate with each other next to calling and talking in real life. There are a lot of advantages. First people can communicate with others without living home or using mobile phone( for which you have to pay). Also community websites enable people to stay in touch with friends who are living in different city or country. Thanks to these websites some people feel that they’re not alone. They can express their feelings or talk about their problems with virtual friends. Moreover you can meet people who like the same things as you. Although Internet communication is the quickest and most direct but you cannot build strong relationships only by means of its. I think that’s the biggest disadvantage. If you want to belong to these community websites first you need to sign in. Then you can post everything you want. From text and photo to video. Various community websites serve to different purposes. For example on myspace you can post your music and talk with other people with this same taste in music. On nasza-klasa everyone can fix up their old friendships with their schoolmates. While on facebook you can share with everybody your thoughts, photos, videos. Everything. I’m not a very active user of such websites because I don’t like to communicate with my friends in this way. Nevertheless I use them from time to time.

14. Peer pressure. Does peer pressure play a significant role in people’s lives? Is it a positive or negative factor? Why is the influence of one’s peers often much stronger than of his or her family or parents? Why may peed pressure lead to low self-esteem and/or frustration? Peer pressure refers to the influence exerted by a peer group in encouraging a person to change his or her attitudes, values, or behavior in order to conform to group norms. For example social clique. In my opinion the peer pressure plays a significant role in young people’s lives, especially when girl or boy are maturing. It is particularly common because most youth spend large amounts of time in groups at school. In addition to this, they may lack the maturity to handle pressure from their peers. I think that peer pressure is negative factor. Young people are more willing to behave negatively towards those who are not members of their own peer groups. They persecute kids which are different from them or which don’t want to belong to their group. Moreover the peer pressure kills individuality. If you want to belong to this group you need to be like them. Also it’s more stronger than family’s influence because kids feel that they need to be accepted by others. If they not they’re abused which lead to low self-esteem because they think that they are worse than others. There are a lot of movies which make reference to abusing at school. Also there are a lot of accidents especially in USA where some boy killed his school mates and professors or committed suicide.

15. Have you Or a person you know, ever worked abroad? Talks about your/their experiences. Are you going to look for a job abroad after graduation? Why/why not?

I didn’t work abroad, but I know few people you worked or still working abroad. My cousin after he graduated he go to England to work. He’s working in hotel as manager. He has no difficulties with the language. He earns more than he would work in Poland. He has big house. He really likes the English culture. He even met girlfriend in England. She’s Pole like him. I think that working abroad can help you with improving your language skills and earn a lot of money. I’m not going to look for a job abroad after my graduation because I’m not confident in my language skills. Also I don’t think that I could handle the distance between me and my family and friends.
