Punctuation
Jeśli zdanie podrzędne warunkowe (po ”if”) występuje na początku,
to zdania oddzielamy przecinkiem.
Jeśli zdanie nadrzędne występuje na początku,
to zdań nie oddzielamy przecinkiem.
If you lend me your basketball, I'll help you with your homework.
Can we go out play basketball when we finish our homework?
You can't go out and play basketball until you finish your homework.
As long as you finish your homework, you can go out and play basketball.
I won't lend you my basketball unless you help me with my homework.
I won't lend you my basketball even if you help me with my homework.
No matter how much you help me with my homework, I won't lend you
my basketball.
ZERO CONDITIONAL
If + Present Simple, Present Simple.
Unless you are on top of a mountain, water boils at 100C.
Użycie Zero Conditional:
używamy, mówiąc o faktach, których nie można zmienić,
prawdy oczywiste
If you take drugs regularly, you become addicted to them.
FIRST CONDITIONAL
If + Present Simple, Future Simple.
If you work hard, you will get a good job.
Użycie First Conditional:
w zdaniach tych mówimy o tym, że jeżeli zostanie spełniony pewien warunek
w przyszłości, to będzie taki a taki skutek.
If it rains, we'll get wet.
You will miss your train if you don't start at once.
SECOND CONDITIONAL
If + Past Simple, Future in the Past.
If I had a younger brother, I'd teach him to play football.
Użycie Second Conditional:
gdy mówimy o sytuacjach nierzeczywistych lub nieprawdopodobnych
If I had a million pounds, I would buy a yacht.
If Mary were here now, she would drive me home.
gdy mówimy o czymś niemiłym, gdyby zdarzyło się to w przyszłości
No matter how safe it was, I wouldn't try bungee jumping.
Unless I won a really big prize in the lottery, I wouldn't give up my job.
gdy radzimy lub sugerujemy coś komuś
If I were you, I would sell this house.
UWAGA!
W II okresie warunkowym, we wszystkich osobach występuje forma ”were”.
THIRD CONDITIONAL
If + Past Perfect, Future Perfect in the Past.
(would + have + III forma czasownika)
She would have passed the exam if she had answered all the questions.
Użycie Third Conditional:
gdy mówimy o sytuacjach nierzeczywistych lub nieprawdopodobnych z przeszłości
(coś się nie wydarzyło, bo nie został spełniony pewien warunek)
We would have gone abroad for our holidays if we hadn't bought a new car.
I wouldn't have been angry if they hadn't been late.
