RangÄ™ of Expressions

29

óirrow particularly, can be seen on the girl, they are rounded 'orms, whilst on the man they ~ave become fixed lines. How-ever, the man's lips and philtrum â– ave lost all definition compared â€¢o the girl's. Overall/ the young emale face is soft and rounded, hereas the older man's is linear ind incised. It is this that makes :der faces so much easier to :arve, and give them character.

The carved head shown here Tg. 58, from The Idea list' is Dcm (4") high and intended to :e expressionless to show the jbject^s indifference to the orld around him. The face has ~en madÄ™ thin to indicate his iicetic way of life and the eyes ;*e blind because his world is ~:ernal not external. However, r deep furrows and slightly iownturned mouth suggest a uch of bitterness at society's â€¢-iglect of his great ideals.
