Basic Patterns


Heel and turn are worked with the first and fourth needles on the right and wrong side of the work.


For the gussot, pick stitches up from the heel edges, then conrinue working in rounds.


For a reinforced heel, every other słitch on the right side of the work is slippod rather than worked.

Heel

The heel and tum are worked with the first and fourth needles. Tcmpo-rarily put aside the stitches on the seconJ and third ncedlc. The heel and turn will wear hetter if you add .1 reinforccment yam.

The heel is worked In sioekinettc snreh. It you wish. you can work rhe first and last 2 or 3 stitches in gartet stitch. You can also work rhe rnrn and heel on only 2 needles.

The heel length proportion o always 2 rows less than the numhcr of stitches. h>r examplc, ir you hnve 30 stitches, you will liave 28 rows.

An additionally reinlonred heel is worked with slipped stitches. On the ri^hi sułe of the work, alremarely knit 1 stitch and slip 1 stitch puriwise. On the wrong side ot the work, purl all the stitches.

Turn

For the turn. rhe heel stitches are dh ided oeenly onto 3 needles. For example. if you have 30 'titchcs, put IC stitches on each ncedle- You can also leavc all rhe stitches on I nee-dlc, hut you wotYl work the outer stitches. It rhe numher of stitches is ui't divisiblc by 3, put the cxtru stitches on the center ncedle.

Conrinue worki ng hack and tdrrh:

In the first row, slip the last stitch on the second ncedle knuwise, knir the first stitJi on the third ncedle. and pa>> the slipped stitch over. Tum the work. In the second row (WS), slip the first stitch puriwise, purl rhe lollowing stitches, then purl the last stitch on the second ncedle togerher with the first stitch on the third needlc. Tum the work. In the third row, slip the first stitch puriwise. work a single decrease over the List stitch on the ncedle and the first snich of the third ncedle. Keep repeanng Rows 2 and 3 umil all the stitches on the first and third needles have Feen used up. Pur the remninmg stitches (herc there are 10) onto 2 needles. at 3 stitches each on the fourth and fust needles.

Gusset

Knir the stitches on the fourth and first needles. then pick up 1 stitch cvery other row on rhe heel edge (in the cxamptc, 28 rows were worked, so 14 Stitches will be picked up). To prevcnt a hole from forming hetwecn rhe heel and rhe euff. inerease 1 stitch knit twisted out of the horizon-ral thread in the corner hetwecn the edge of the heel and the euff (15 Stitches in rorni). I hen work rhe stitches on the second and third needles. For the fourth needle, first incrca.se 1 stitch in the corner, knit twisted, then pick up I stitch every other row along the heel edge. Then work the roniaining 5 stitches. Thcrc are now morę stitches on rhe first and fourth needles (20, in this case). which will he reduccd agam as the gusset decrease.s are madę.

Now work I round using all the stitches. The stitches on the first and fourth needles should always be worked in stoelunette stitch. whilc the stitches on the second and third needles can be worked in a postem.

In tłu.* next row, knit the second and rhird to last stitches on the first ncedle together for the decreases, then knir the List 'titch. On the fourth needle. knit the first stitch.

'lip the second stitch knitwise. knit the third stitch. and pass the slipped ■itirch ovcr. Then work 2 rounds widiom Jecrcasing. Rcpeat tiie.se 3 rows umil the odginał number of stitches (herc it ts 15) on the first and fourth needles has been reached again. Work the desired length of the foor.
