Frames and Borders

Quilled frames for photographs, smali pictures etc., are very attractive. It is always a good idea to sketch the frame first, not necessarily to scalę e.g. 1. & 2., and then using a grid, make it up to your sketch. Filigree shapes are ideał for this purpose.

The detailed section, 3., is taken from the 17th Century picture illustrated on page 19, it is very ornate and gilded, sloping from the outside down towards the inside.
