Rotator Cu ff Impingement or Tendonitis

Kolator cuff impingement is a term which refers to a compression of a specific tissue or a combination of the supraspinatus, long head of the biceps tendon, or the subacromial bursae on the bony coracoacro-mial arch. When an intlammation develops the soft tissue is compressed against the bony arch causing an increase in edema and possibly over time a partial thickness injury. This condition may also be seen in combination with shoulder instability.

The Kinesio taping method wili assist in reduction of edema, and pain, with an increase in muscie activify to provide increased joint stabilit)'.

Application of the supraspinatus muscie taping

from insertion to origin, this should be applied first

as it is the primary tissue to be treated.

Begin by placing the base of the Kinesio Y strip two inches below the greater tuberosity of the humerous, with no tension.

Have the patient mowę into shoulder adduction behind the back, with lateral neck flexion.

Apply light, 15-25 % of available, or paper off tension to the tails of the Kinesio Y strip. The superior taił should follow superior to the spinous procesi of the scapula, approximately the junction between the upper and middle trapezius muscles and ending at the supraspinous fossa on the superior medial border of the scapula.

The inferior taił should follow along the spinous. process of the scapula. Lay the distal 1 to 2 inches

down with no tension.

Bngr

Initiate glue activation prior to any further patiem movement.

Application of the deltoid muscie taping from insertion to origin, as demonstrafed all three portions are being taped as a group. The practitioner may select to tape the muscles separately.

Begin by placing the base of the Kinesio Y strip two inches below the deltoid tuberosity of the humerus, with no tension.

Have the paticnt move into shoulder abduction to approximately 45 degrces with external rotation.

Apply light, 15-25 %, of available/ or papcr off tension to the tails of the Kinesio Y strip. Anterior taił should follow the curvature of the anterior deltoid muscie.

Have the patient move into shoulder adduction with horizontal flexion.

Apply light, 15-25 % of available, or paper off tension to the tails of the Kinesio Y strip. Posterior taił should follow the curvature of the posterior deltoid muscie, ending at approximately the acro-mioclavicular joint.

The last 1-2 inches should be laid down with no tension. Initiate glue activation prior to any further patient movement.

Application of mechanical correction technique tension on base. For review see mechanical correction technique.

Begin by placing the base of a 6-8 inch long Kinesio Y strip on the anterior aspect of the shoulder in the area of the coracoid process, with no tension. The base can be adjusted to place the cut of the Y directly below the region of pain.

One hand should hołd the base to ensure no tension is added. Apply moderate to severe, 50-75 % of available tension with downward pressure sur-rounding the area of pain.

When approximately 1/2 of the Kinesio Y strip has been applied, slide the hand which was holding the base up to the point of end tension on the Kinesio Tex.

Have the patient move into shoulder flexion with horizontal flexion. Apply the tails of the Kinesio Y strip in a spayed out pattem to dissipate the created force, no tension is applied to the tails.

Initiate glue activation prior to any further patient movement.

Completed rotator cuff impingement or tendonitis Kinesio taping method application.
