The Basic Face 13

One morę smali area is removed, Fig. 12, and the face is accessible to start work on.

The first area to remove is all the front surface either side ot' the nose, mouth and chin, taking it back to the level of the front of the eyelids. Fig. 13. (See also Fig. 6). Where this runs up to the middle of the face the corners should be rounded with a gouge, not cut in square, Figs 14 and 15. The corners of the face resulting from this procedurę can now be rounded, Fig. 15. Study the photos from below to get some idea of the shape you are work-ing towards, Figs 20, 23, 26 and 29, and the cross sections, Fig. 7.
