Bell Flower

Using Coats Chain Mer-cer Crochet No. 40, the flower measures approximately 6.5 cm (2Vz in) in diameter when assembled. Fine floristry wire and floristry tape are needed; artificial stamens are optional.

Make a minimal picot over these joins, except when joining to the centre ring. Chain-to-chain joins are normal joins.

To complete the motif, join to the base of ring C and ring B when working the last chain, using the method for connecting a rosette, given in KNOW-HOW 14 (p. 70). Tie the end of this chain to the centre ring.

Bell motif (make 3 for each flower)

With the shuttle wound directly from the bali, start at A with a centre ring of (2ds, p) 8 times, 2ds; rw.

Continue from the diagram, working all around the centre ring. All chain-to-ring joins are worked with the shuttle thread.

To assemble the flower

Wire each beli motif separately, running fine floristry wire through the base of the motifs and twisting to form a stem. If stamens are used, they are enclosed in a fold of doubled wire. Place three motifs together and wrap the combined stem with floristry tape.
