Edging

Notę: On rnd 1, insert hook through smali motif ring to work sc in each picot unless otherwise specified.

Rnd 1: Join with sc in picot on Section 1 ring at lower left comer, inserting hook through smali motif ring to join, (ch 8, sc in picot on next Section 1 ring through smali motif ring)

5 times, ch 6, sc in picot on last md of rosę petal;

Work edging around side of crossbar: ch 6, sc in picot on next ring on crossbar, ch 8, sc in next picot, ch 8, sc in next picot on same ring without going through smali motif ring for this sc, ch 10, sc in picot on next ring without going through smali motif ring for sc, ch 8, sc in next picot on same ring going through smali motif ring, ch 8, sc in next picot, ch 6, skip one set of petals on rosę, sc in next picot on last md of petal;

Work edging around top of cross: *ch 6, sc in next picot, ch 8, sc in next picot, ch 8, sc in next picot on same ring without going through smali motif ring, ch 10, sc in picot on nexl ring without going through smali motif ring for sc, ch 8, sc in next picot on same ring going through smali motif ring, ch 8, sc in next picot, ch 6, skip one set of petals on rosę, sc in next picot on last md of petal;

Repeat from * to work edging around side of crossbar.

Work edging along remaining side of cross: ch 6, sc in next picot (ch 8, sc in picot on next Section 1 ring) 5 times, ch 8, sc in next picot on same ring without going through smali motif ring, ch 10, sc in picot on next ring without going through smali motif ring for sc, ch 8, join in 1^SI sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, (4 sc, picot, 2 sc, picot, 2 sc, picot, 4 sc) in each ch-8 sp, (5 sc, picot, 2 sc, picot, 2 sc, picot, 5 sc) in each ch-10 sp, and in the four pairs of ch-6 sps, work (3 sc, picot, 3 sc) in l^st ch-6 sp, (3 sc, joining picot, 3 sc) in 2^,xł ch-6 sp.

Al end of md, join with sl st in 1^M sc. Fasten off.

Finishing

Steam cross and shape as needed. Light spray starch is optional, but adds body. Allow cross to dry completely.

To mount cross on fabric for framing:

Center cross on desired fabric. Using sewing needle and thread to match cross, bring thread up from wrong side of fabric and take a liny stitch on underside of cross. Repeat around until cross is securely attached. Stretch and smooth fabric over foundation. Foundation can be w^?ood, cardboard, artist canvas, stretcher frames, or even the cardboard that comes with many picture frames. Stitch fabric together at back to secure. Insert in frame.
