Drawing Conventions when Updating Charts

It is good practice to observe the following conventions when updating charts:

Insertions:

Deletions:

Moves:

Do not make the common error of drawing exactly what is on the tracing onto the chart. Insertions can often be madę by drawing the new feature in an open area of the chart and “arrowing it in" to a smali circle in the correct position. Other insertions are shown in the exact position by drawing the feature in the correct location; a new legend is a typical example of this.

These should be madę by drawing two straight lines through each piece of text or feature to be deleted. Do not delete items in the same manner as shown on the tracings. If there is any doubt, the tracing will be annotated with amplifying information so that adjacent information, for example, is not deleted in error.

Occasionally features are moved a short distance from their original position. Draw a smali circle at the new position and arrow the feature to that position.

New Symbols: The examples that foilow do not contain a complete set of symbols used on tracings.

New symbols may be introduced from time to time. If unsure of the meaning, always consult the text of the NM for ciarification.

Substitutions: Wherever possible, overwriting of existing information should be avoided. Where space permits, changed information should be neatly inserted adjacent to the old information; otherwise it should be inserted in a elear space and “arrowed in”.

Finał Notes

The examples shown in this booklet are by no means exhaustive but should be sufficient to illustrate the principles involved. When you are updating your charts you should try to achieve the very highest standards of draughtsmanship so that you can read the information clearly.

Most important of all:

Positions must be exact.

Depths and symbols must be elear. Legends and descriptions must be legible.
