Metaphor - a figurę of speech in which a word or phrase literalły signifying one kind of object or idea is identified with or used in place of another to suggest a łikeness or analogy between them, e.g. Jane is an angel

Classifying metaphors:

a)    Concretive metaphor - uses a concrete term to talk aboul an abstract thing - their friendship melted away

b)    Animistic metaphor - uses a term usually associated with animate things (living

creatures) to talk about an inanimate thing -theieg afthe table

c)    Anthropomorphic metaphor (personification) - uses a term usually associated with

human beings to talk about non-human thing - the hands ofthe clock
