What are the advantages and disadvantages of hyperspectral remote sensing in
comparison with multispectral Landsat-type scanning systems.
Answer
Advantages: High spectral resolving power, so it is possible to see/sense in
more spectral detail, and thus resolve features at mineral rather than rock scale.
Hyperspectral remote sensing is also multi-purpose.
Disadvantages: lower signal-to-noise ratio, more processing required, usually
smaller footprint/swath, i.e. of local rather than regional interest, data are not
easy to obtain/expensive.
