CIL
corrosion inhibitor
TM
Description
CIL corrosion inhibitor is a specially formulated silica-based product for reducing
corrosion normally associated with marine and offshore potable/fresh water storage
systems. The introduction of this product into the storage tank will form a protective
barrier-type film on the internal metal surfaces. In addition, CIL corrosion inhibitor
will not impart any color, odor or taste to the water being treated. CIL corrosion
inhibitor has been Tested and Certified by NSF International, the widely
recognized and respected independent certification organization for public health
safety. CIL corrosion inhibitor is Certified to ANSI/NSF Standard 60 Drinking Water
Treatment Chemicals/Health Effects.

Application and Use
Potable Water Tanks
CIL corrosion inhibitor can either be slug dosed or fed to the tank with a Drew Series 200 dosing pump
and tank set.
The recommended initial dose is .33 liter of CIL inhibitor per 10 tonnes of water for the first four weeks.
This will provide a level of 10 ppm of silica. After the initial period, the treatment level may be reduced to
0.25 liter of CIL inhibitor per 10 tonnes of water.
NOTE: Water treated with CIL inhibitor should not be used in the boiler systems.

Permanent Fresh Water Ballast Tanks
The recommended initial dose is 32 ppm silica. To achieve this, dose 1 liter CIL
TM
corrosion inhibitor per
10 tonnes of fresh water.
On a tank previously dosed with CIL inhibitor, 1 liter CIL inhibitor per 20 tonnes should achieve a level of
32 ppm of silica.
To ensure a proper level of CIL inhibitor is established, a Silica Test Kit is available (P/C #1941013). Due
to limited stocking, contact your local Drew Marine representative for availability in your area.
