a history of over 800 years and
will appeal to all ages. The Bayle
Museum is open on weekdays
(11am to 4pm) and Saturdays
between Easter and the end of
September (small admission charge

Visiting the Old Town is like walking
into a completely different world.
This is the historic quarter of
Bridlington, where the street and

Along the quiet 17th century High

This Grade I listed building and
Scheduled Ancient Monument was
once the original gatehouse to The
Priory Church and is home to
historical artefacts, exhibits and
interactive activities. You can view
the original legal documents of
crimes, sentences and fines from
the 17th and 18th century in the
Court Room, which is still used
for the quarterly meetings of
the museum’s trustees, the
Lords Feoffees.

Festival Time!

June sees Bridlington Old Town
in full swing. The first event on the
weekend of 21st and 22nd June sees
the ever popular Secret Gardens.
Visit a great diversity of gardens
hidden from view behind the
Georgian facades, with the added
attraction of artists at work in some

Prince

The Priory was once the largest
and wealthiest in Yorkshire, and
Kings and Queens came to visit.
It was founded by the Lord of the
Manor Gilbert de Gant in 1113 with
an adjoining convent. Located on
the site of a Saxon church and
nunnery, that grew in status to
become one of the wealthiest and
most important monasteries in the
North. Consequently the town
expanded around it, and has
served as the Parish Church of
Bridlington and remains in use as
the Parish Church of St Mary.
