1.3  General description. (Dwg No: K4-A1-01)

The hook is constructed using galvanized grade ST-52

steel in the main hook, side plates and mousing unit. All
pivot bolts and the lock bolt are constructed from St-
Steel.

All hooks are individually numbered and issued with

it`s own certificate.

2.   System

description.

In a typical installation, (as shown in above fig.)

the hook would be attached to a console,or to a support
frame (Gantry) which in turn would be attached to the
rescue boat. The release handle are mounted in a position
within reach of the helmsman.

A vital part of such an installation would be a

painter release hook mounted in the front of the
rescueboat. The release and connection of the painter line
to the boat are vital to safe launch and recovery of  all
single point suspended rescue boats.

3.   Launching

procedure.

3.1  Release the boat lashings that secure the boat to the

davit, See the davit manual for correct procedure.

3.2  Ensure that the safety pin for the

hook is in its correct (SECURED.)
position. Ensure that the Painter
line is secured to the Painter hook
with other end to the ship.

3.3  The boat may be lowered following

the correct procedure for lowering.
(see the davit manual for details.)

                                   SAFETY PIN

WARNING!

Do not under any circumstances remove the
safety pin or release the painter line at

this point!!!!!

   3.4

When the boat is completely waterborne, (The fall wire
is slack.) remove the safety pin and release the fall
wire complete with end link from the hook by pulling
the release handle. After the fall wire are released
from the hook, reset the hook and insert the safety
pin in its correct position.

3.5  Make sure the rescue boat engine is running and ready

for operation. Release the painter line from the bow
of the rescue boat and drive away from mother ship.
See the appropriate rescue boat manual for details.
Shown below are a typical Norsafe as. painter
installation.

   RECOVERY

PROCEDURE.

4.1  Pick up the painter line from the mother ship and

connect the painter line to the painter release hook
in the front of the rescueboat, see the appropriate
rescueboat manual for details. Check that the lifting
hook is properly reset and that the safety pin is in
it`s "secured" position.

Warning!

Do not under any circumstances attempt to recover the rescue

boat without the hook properly reset, the safety pin in the

"secured" position and the mousing unit operating properly, As

premature release of the lifting hook would cause serious

injury to the rescue boat crew.!!!

4.2  If the mother ship is making

headway, let the rescue boat
drift back until the painter
line holds the rescueboat
underneath the davit fall wire,
otherwise reverse the rescueboat
underneath the fall wire. Grab
the fall wire end link firmly
and clip the end link onto the
hook. Make sure that the mousing
unit has fallen back to it`s
locked position, ensuring that
the end link cannot work loose from the hook.

4.3  Hoist the rescueboat to it`s stored position in the

davit and secure the boat lashings. See the

     appropriate davit manual for details.

4.4  RELEASE OF THE BOAT

1. Ensure  that the boat is

fully waterborne.

          2. Desig nated crew member to remove

the safety pin and stand clear.

          3. Inform helmsman that hook is active.

4. Helmsman pull hook release
   handle aftwards until hook
   release the fall wire.
5. Crew member pulls Painter
   release handle.

4.5  RECOVERY OF THE BOAT

1. reset hook by returning hook

release handle to it`s
original position and reset
the safety pin in original
position.

2. Pick up the Painter line

from the mothership and
connect it to the Painter
release hook.

3. Designated crew member

must then place wire fall
end link in the hook,
ensuring that the mousing
unit is correctly placed.

4. The boat may then be

retreived complete with
crew and survivors for
which the boat is approved.

6.   MAINTENANCE

PROCEDURE.

6.1  The maintenance required on the 4 tonne S.W.L. off

load hook is very minimal and should be carried out as
follows:

  AT

MONTHLY

INTERVALS:

The complete system should be inspected for any signs
of corrosion, particular care being taken of the
control wire to see it is not corroded or frayed in
any position.

The main pivot pin of the hook should be greased using
a good quality grease.

It is also recommended that the whole system be washed
with fresh water after the boat has been used, in
order to minimize corrosion attacks and minimize the
risk of salt deposits from the seawater causing the
moving parts of the hook to "jam" or move hesitantly.
