Girl:  I usually come back home from school

at five in the afternoon. I eat dinner

and play with my dog in the garden.

When my mum returns from work at

about quarter to eight, I’m already in my

room reading. I read until quarter-past

eight, and later talk with my mum for

a while. I usually go to sleep at half-past

eight. I know it’s early, but the next

morning I need to be at school at quarter

to eight.

Man:

Are you ready to order?

Woman:  No, I haven’t decided yet. What do

you recommend?

Man:

I’d recommend fish, chips and salad.

Woman:  Hmmm ... I don’t like fish. I’ll have

chips and salad only, please.

Man:

But you can order chips and salad

with steak, instead of fish.

Woman: No, thank you. I don’t eat red meat.

ƒ

Three

Boy:  My father’s a taxi driver, and I enjoy

watching Formula 1 with him.

Everything I know about cars is thanks

to my dad. He showed me how to

construct and repair a car. And this is

what I’d like to do in the future – help

people when they’ve got problems with

their cars. I know that this job is not as

exciting as Formula 1 racing, but it’s for

sure more useful.

ƒ

Four

Woman: One ticket to Luton, please.
Man:

Single or return?

Woman: Return.
Man:

That’s £12.

Woman:  Here you are, thanks. Do you know

which platform it’s from?

Man:

Platform two.

Woman: Thank you.

ƒ

Five

Girl:  I got Elma for my thirteenth birthday.

I already had a dog, and I was a little

afraid that they may not like each other.

Luckily, they don’t fight like cats and dogs

usually do. They’ve become friends!

Every day after school, I watch them

playing in the garden. They’re so funny

that they should appear in a comedy

film.

Bill:

Hi Miranda!

Miranda:  Hello Bill! Do you want to come

to the bookshop with me? I want

to buy ‘The Queen in Love’.

Bill:

What’s that? Another love story for

your sister? I really can’t

understand what makes her so

fascinated by those silly stories with

happy endings.

Miranda:  Well, this time the book is not

for her, and it’s not a romance.

‘The Queen in Love’ is a book of

horror stories.

Bill:

Oh! So another for your collection.

Miranda:  That’s right. I can’t wait to read it.

Talking about collections, is your

brother still reading books about

Sherlock Holmes?

Bill:

 Yes, he really enjoys solving

mysteries and finding out who the

murderer was.

Miranda:  And what about you? Do you keep

reading fantasies?

Bill:

Well, I’m getting more and more

interested in the history of ancient

Egypt, and now I read a lot about

British history. I don’t think I’ll ever

go back to the fantasy books I’ve

read.

Your favourite Golden Heaven

Girl:  Next year, I’m going to be studying at

university, and it’s high time to start

thinking about my future job. My mum

tells me that I should be a lawyer,

because it’s a well-paid job. My father

also thinks that money is important,

and wants me to be a doctor. I like the

idea of working in a hospital, but I’d

rather be a nurse. Being a doctor

involves too much responsibility.

ƒ

Man:  Can you go to the shop?

Girl:  Yes, of course. What do we need?

Man:   One carton of milk and a bottle of

water.

Girl:  What about oranges?

Man:   Oh, yes. You’re right. Buy half a kilo.

Oh, wait! Don’t buy any water. There

are three bottles in the fridge.

Girl:   Do you want some cornflakes to eat

with the milk?

Man:  No, thanks. I bought them yesterday.

ƒ

Three

Boy:  I’m really crazy about Radiohead. I think

they’re the best rock band in the world!

I’ve seen them live 27 times since they

released their first album, and I’ve still got

the 27 tickets from these concerts. Nice

collection, isn’t it? I’m really proud of it.

When I was younger, I collected

Radiohead posters, but I sold the whole

collection. I’m now thinking about buying

some T-shirts with their autographs on,

but they are very difficult to get hold of.

Woman:  When are we going to go swimming?

I can’t wait to get into the water.

Man:

Me too. And look at the golden sand

and people collecting shells.

Woman:  Yes, the view from the window is

really nice.

Man:

Okay, let’s go. Take your swimming

costume and a towel. They’re in the

wardrobe.

ƒ

Judy:

Hello William!

William:  Hi Judy! Has something happened?

Do you want to change our evening

plans?

Judy:

Oh, no! Of course, not. I’m just

calling to ask if you remember that

we’re meeting at seven in front of

the cinema, and to make sure that

you haven’t forgotten about the

tickets.

William:  Don’t worry, I remembered to get

them. See you there.

Judy:

See you.

Carol:   Hi Billy! Why are you looking so

worried?

Billy:   Hi Carol! I’ve got a problem with my

Physics homework. Can you help me?

Carol:   Not really. I’m not an expert in this

subject. You should ask Allan. He can

do any exercise, and is really interested

in Physics. I could help you draw

a portrait or paint a picture.

Billy:   Yes, you’re talented. I really liked your

last drawing of Queen Elizabeth II.

It was very realistic.

Carol:   Thank you. Coming back to your

homework, I think that you can also

ask Bernard for help. Maybe he’s not

interested in Physics, but he’s fantastic

at calculations.

Billy:   I know. Have you heard about him

winning the school competition, and

getting the title of ‘King of

Mathematics’?

Carol:   Wow! that’s interesting.

Billy:   Well, I think I’ll try to do the Physics

exercise later. Now, I need to mark the

names of rivers and lakes on a map of

South America. But at least this is what

I’m interested in.

Presenter:  Good evening! You’re listening to

the sports news. Brighton played

Southampton today. In the first

half, in the Southampton team,

there were thirteen instead of

eleven players on the pitch. In the

second half, one of the Brighton

players touched the ball with both

his hands as if he was playing

volleyball. But the match wasn’t

stopped. Where was the referee?

Why didn’t he react? Well, it was

because of the fog! He just

couldn’t see the players! I think it’s

the strangest football match I’ve

ever seen.
