Tenor Luciano Pavarotti has married his former personal assistant Nicoletta Mantovani in a
ceremony in Italy. Pavarotti, 68, wed Ms Mantovani, 33, at a theatre in his home town of Modena
with many celebrity friends looking on.
A banquet for 600 guests, including Sting, Bono and Donatella Versace was held in a nearby park.
Pavarotti and Ms Mantovani fell in love after she began working for the singer when she was a
student in 1994 and he was married with three adult children.
Their relationship became public two years later when they were pictured kissing on holiday, and
Pavarotti separated from his wife of 35 years, Adua Veroni.
The wedding, which has obsessed the Italian press for weeks, was officially hosted by the couple's
11-month-old daughter Alice.
Both mother and daughter wore pale pink Armani dresses.
Crowds of local residents watched the bride arrive in a limousine decorated with pink flowers.
Pavarotti appeared nervous as he entered the theatre, wearing his trademark Panama hat. But his
bride appeared more relaxed and waved to the crowd.
Among those expected to attend the wedding were Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras who teamed
up with Pavarotti for his Three Tenors concert.
Another tenor, Andrea Bocelli performed the Ave Maria during the civil ceremony.
The couple have asked guests to make donations to selected charities instead of giving gifts.
