Playing the Game
You can play War of The Ring with as many or as
few models as you like and on whatever terrain
you have to hand. The rulebook includes lots of
scenarios and set-ups ranging from small
skirmishes to huge battles like Pelennor Fields.
Here we present a simple scenario using two small
forces that will give you a tactical challenge and
help you learn the rules.
Ambush!
A column of Sauron’s troops is marching towards
the Black Gate to further swell the armies now
gathering in the dark land of Mordor. Should
these forces pass through the Black Gate they will
be unassailable, so the forces of Good must attack
their foes upon the road. The advantage of
surprise and position lie with the ambushers, but
can they overwhelm their quarry and win the day?
Victory Conditions
To win this scenario, the forces of Evil need to get
at least a quarter of their companies off the board
via the eastern board edge, whereas Good need to
destroy enough of the Evil force to prevent this.
Note that monsters, such as the Mordor Troll, are a
single company.
Priority
To represent the fact that the forces of Good have
sprung their ambush, the Good side automatically
has priority in the first turn.
