The Mars Rover
The Mars Rover - type of
spacecraft, having the ability to
move around the surface of the
planet or moon where he landed.
The Mars Rover, thanks to it’s mobility, is the
choice of place and object of research.
However, it’s sending is very expensive due
to the need to place the drive system inside
the probe, which greatly increases its
weight. To rovers mostly include unmanned
vehicles.
The first rover, which arrived safely on the
surface of Mars in December 1971, was prop-
M on board the Soviet probe Mars-3. Contact
the lander was lost in a few seconds after
landing and rover was never used. There is a
small device with a mass of 4.5 kg.
The first successful mission that uses a self-
propelled vehicle on another planet was
Mars Pathfinder. July 4, 1997 year lander
platform slid onto the surface of the planet
rover Sojourner, weighing only 10.5 kg,
powered by solar panels. He sent to Earth
550 photos and conducted an analysis of the
chemical composition of rocks.
In November 2011, NASA sent to Mars
under the Mars Science Laboratory mission,
the rover Curiosity. The vehicle has a mass
of 899 kg and is well-equipped self-propelled
research laboratory. The purpose of his
mission is to investigate conditions in the
past and present on Mars.
