WHAT IS YOUR VIEW ON THE IMPORTANCE OF DISCIPLINE IN THE ARMED FORCES
The discipline in the armed forces, especially in the Navy, is very important. The conditions of service on a board of warship require from seamen strict discipline. I have been an officer for about twenty years and I hold a sober view of discipline. The discipline there is a compromise between war and common sense.
When I was a commanding officer I had a lot of problems with my crew especially with young sailors who had to serve three years on the board. The main problem was alcohol. Sailors can not drink alcohol anywhere except their home but young people have big imagination. I had a very good artilleryman on my ship but he liked drinking beer very much. He was only in two places it was a soldier's arrest or on a board at sea. He had to serve two months more than his colleagues.
Finally, I must say “the discipline is very important”.
