Compare and contrast two people you know.

One time an ancient playwright, Aristophanes, wrote: “The old are in second childhood.” This eternal verity reflects a disposition of a an abundance of people in the prime of their life.

It denotes that old people experience their second life, thoroughly divergent from time when they set up families. Foregoing situation is purely concerned with my grandmother, a woman who despite being sixty eight, still lives her life to the full exactly like my friend, Monika who is eighteen. Regardless of fifty years which separate them and in spite of vide spectrum of discrepancies, these two ladies do share certain similar qualities.

The main point that gives evidence to their resemblance pertains to some features of character such as merriment and imperishable buoyancy. Both my grandma and Monika have optimistic approach to life and are able, at any time, to find positive aspects in situations they encounter. They both are not in the habit of immersing in defeats. Quite the contrary, they fight their way through life and strive for contentment treating all failures as a lesson. In addition they both own quite a lot of animals which evinces compassionateness and tenderness towards those creatures.

Another conspicuous semblance refers to some interests and ambitions. The two ladies aspire to self-improvement broadening their horizons by acquainting with valuable literature and traveling a lot so as to explore diverse cultures and customs. Furthermore they are passionately fond of Japanese culture, art and history as well as rave about its traditional attires. Since time out of mind Monika has been craving for visiting this remote land, likewise my grandmother.

Despite similarities itemised above, there are several aspects which at first glance differentiate these two women.

As regards the first obvious difference, I have to mention attitude to religion. My grandmother doesn't tolerate neglecting religious duties under any condition what she evinces by regular attendance in church. She frequently reads and interprets passages from the Bible because she genuinely relies on Good News of the Redeemer. Monica, in comparison manifests a slender interest in matters concerning church. She is a Christian, notwithstanding she does not obey the rules imposed by the church, let alone going to masses.

Other area of discrepancy between this young and older lady involves issue of lifestyle. Whereas my grandmother leads a stabilized existence, occasionally even monotonous, my friend lives at a good pace. The further habitually cultivates flowers in the garden and devotes herself to upbringing of her grandchildren. The latter, in contrast, has many ideas per minute. Consequently nobody can envisage what she will be doing tomorrow or in a week's time.

A final aspect which draws a distinction refers to means of entertainment they have the use of. Monika breathlessly looks forward to cinematic premiere compared with my grandma who with great exuberance would see a performance in the theatre in the company of her husband. In addition, Monika prefers rock music and luxuriates on sounds of a bass guitar during the open air concerts while the grandmother indulge herself in a blissful pleasure of watching an opera performance.

The two ladies presented above may virtually convey the impression of thoroughly disparate individuals when it comes to religious approach, lifestyle and entertainment, nevertheless they share many a feature. What makes them similar is to some extend their character and aspirations as well. Despite an abyss of age they both preserve serenity and make any endeavor to implement own passions. As we can see the generation gap does not mean complete gulf between the old and the young. I sincerely believe that someday this problem will disappear as people start to catch sight of similarities which so frequently unite them us.
