Change is crucial for development of any civilization and its
success. It gives the opportunity to improve standards of
living of societies by changing law, technology and many other
points. Even if a change is not very fortunate, it always teaches
a lesson not to do the same mistake again. We would not have
today's civilization without thousands of years of changes.
Romans weren't too original by adopting many things from
Greek civilization, such as the Olympian gods and democracy.
Yet, they made a lot of changes to them; for example, they
named most of the gods differently and improved their
democracy system by changing it from direct to representative.
Today's societies know the importance of change very well. All
countries change their leaders from time to time believing that
new leaders can change their homeland into a better place.
The difference between societies that are open for change and
those "closed" ones is evident when we look at the U.S. and
former Soviet Union,"old" Hongkong and communist China,
North and South Korea and so on. The countries which are
open for change are very dynamic and usually wealthy, while
those closed for change are stagnant and their people often
live below the poverty line. If not for changes, we would still live in caves.
