Tasks: to have a quiz about Ireland

Preparation: make copies of the game board and the question sheet (1 copy per a group of 5 students)

prepare a set of revision questions: about 15 questions dealing with grammar and/or vocabulary!

bring dice and counters

Skills: speaking

Language: `Irish' names and phrases

general vocabulary and grammar

specific aspects of grammar and/or vocabulary (cf. the set of revision questions)

How to play the game?

Divide your class into groups of 5. In each group, there should be two pairs of players and one person administering the game.
Distribute the boards, dice and counters. The pairs of players who throw the highest number become pairs #1 and place their counters of the fields marked with #1.
Pair #1 moves from their starting point clockwise till the last field () and then back to the initial field. Pair #2 moves from their initial field anti-clockwise till the last field (?) and back.
Pair #1 throws the dice and moves the right number of fields (in the right direction!). If the counter lands on a field marked with:

a letter and a number - the pair can earn from 1 point (A-questions) to 3 points (C-questions) if the answer is correct;
(?) - the pair earns 1 point if Ss manage to answer correctly a question about grammar/vocabulary;
() - the pair earns 1 point (without any questions) and gets an extra turn;
() - they miss 1 turn.

Each question may be asked and answered only once.
The game ends when one pair gets back to its initial field. Then, the points are added and the pair with the highest score is the winner.

Notes & comments

If you do not have enough dice or counters, ask your Ss to bring some from home. However, it is probable that some of them will forget to bring them, so have a few extra ones.
