The future of our planet
Optimists think that the future of our planet will be bright. Of course there are some problems which will not be easy to solve; the contamination of the environment the greenhouse effect, nuclear waste, and many other troublesome things. People, however are getting more and more sensitive to these issues. Optimists, aware of this change in people's perception of the world, advise us not to worry, and they go on: as the progress in technology is enormously rapid, our life will soon be easier and nicer. Inventions in the field of medicine will make our bodies stronger and healthier. We will enjoy our life fully. People will forget what hunger means, because farmers in most countries, including ours, will use more and more sophisticated methods of improving efficiency.
The standard of living will be very high in most parts of the world. It will make people less aggressive and more cooperative. It will not eradicate crime in the world, but the international police will be very well organised, making criminal activity very risky.
Frontiers will not be guarded against invasions any more; tourism will make it easy for all nations of the world to know and understand one another better. Wars will never torment innocent people.
Pessimists bring to light the price of this comfort. They say that many species of animals will become extinct. Most of the world's population will inhabit big cities, which will make them look like concrete jungles; skyscrapers will grow there instead of trees. "Oxygen stands," at which people will stop to take some fresh air/ will be a permanent element of big cities.
The competition on the market will be very keen. Some people may not bear the increasing pace of life. Drugs, alcohol and a constant feeling of fear will be very common.
As you can see, the proverb "every stick has two ends" refers to the future of our planet perfectly. Whatever our opinion, let's hope all these changes and transformations will help individuals find and identify their place in the world.
