Track 18: Listening Test for Unit 7
[P = Presenter; J = John Mullin]
P: Good morning, and welcome to `The world today'. Today's guest is John Mullin, from the environmental group `Eco Warriors'. Welcome to the programme, John.
J: Thank you.
P: John, world leaders are meeting in Tokyo next week for the International Conference on Climate Change. What do you think they're going to talk about at the conference?
J: At this conference world leaders need to talk about what we can do immediately to slow down climate change. Our Prime Minister is flying to Japan tomorrow and I'm meeting with him at Downing Street later today. I'm going to ask him to stop building new motorways and airports because we believe climate change is the biggest problem in the world today. People are driving and flying too much. We need to improve public transport. The government must spend more on buses and trains.
P: Is your group planning to go to the conference?
J: Yes, a group of protesters will be at the conference centre. We're going to organise a peaceful demonstration outside the conference building.
P: What can people at home do?
J: Well, we want to ask everyone to email the Prime Minister before the conference. Ask him what he is going to do about global warming. But the best thing they can do is leave their cars at home and take the bus.
P: John Mullin, thank you very much.
J: Thank you.
