ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEST LEVEL 2

WRITING (75 MINS)

There are two tasks in this test. You must do both tasks.

TASK ONE

Choose one of the following topics. You should write between 120 and 150 words.

1. You received an invitation to a course - Contemporary Cultural Challenges of Middle East - in an American military base. Write a letter to your commander asking for the official permission to attend the course. In your letter present the details of the course (time and place, instructors, cost, subjects to be taught) and state how you will benefit.

2. It has been recently announced that a big company is planning to build a large factory in your neighbourhood. Write a letter of complaint to the local authorities opposing this project. State the reasons why you think it can be harmful to your community. Ask for the possibility to organize the meeting of the community members, local authorities and company employees during which all the important issues could be discussed.

TASK TWO

You must do this task. You should write between 120 and 150 words.

You have just returned from the organized action during which you and other soldiers helped the population from the flooded part of Poland to rescue and protect their houses. Write
a report to your commander in which you describe the action. In the report include:

• time and place of the action,

• the scope of damage,

• undertaken emergency measures,

• the outcome of the rescue actions,

• recommendations for the future.
