Lead-in activities
The goal here is to get the students to think back to when they were younger with some nostalgia. You could ask them
to think about children‟s television programmes (Dobranocka etc.) and see what they come up with, or alternatively
give them some clues. Another alternative is to give each student one title, plus three „banned‟ words. They then have
to make their partner say the title by describing it without using the „banned‟ words.
First reading
Get them to brainstorm what they remember about the cartoon before reading. The actual reading should be as fast
as possible so (a) the students genuinely read for gist and (b) they don‟t get all the answers to the next task.
1. A Hoj!
2. The Forest Bandit
3. “I‟ll show you!”
4. Busy as a...
5. Balum Balum!
6. Brotherly Love

Writing
This should be a fun and creative activity so encourage them to discuss their ideas before they start writing. One
effective way to do this would be to ask the students to prepare a proposal in the form of a poster, including drawings
of the characters, and then make a presentation to the class. They could then vote on the best.
Extension
Each cartoon has its own page in the Polish version of Wikipedia <
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strona_glowna
and you could print out these pages for some translation work. It would then be possible to add pages, or edit existing
pages in the English version of Wikipedia <
