Notes on Electronic Edition

Th

is edition is based on the printed edition published by Philipp Rec-

lam jun., Leipzig in 1882.

All direct problems and selfmates have been computer tested us-

ing Matthieu Leschemelle’s computer program Problemiste. Th

e stud-

ies have been manually tested using Fritz 6 with the Nalimov end-
game database. Th

e conditional problems, however, have only been

checked for obvious errors.

Problems without a solution have been indicated with [†] after the

stipulation, problems with short solutions with [§], and problems with
multiple solutions with [*], and an indication of the problem given af-
ter the (original) solution. Any other errors discovered in the original
solutions have been added in brackets, but obvious misprints have
been silently corrected.

Two oddities are worth mentioning. In two-mover 70, both black

bishops are on white squares. In three-mover 58, the solution given
in the original is faulty. Healey’s own collection gives the correct so-
lution, however.

Solutions have also been changed from long to short algebraic form,

and slightly expanded in cases where the extremely contracted soluti-
ons of the original seemed excessive. Lines not present in the original
solutions have not been added.

Vorrede

mich gerichtete Auff orderung zahlreicher Schachfreunde veranlas-

Compositionen begegnen. So haben z. B. die vierzügige No. 102 von
Pradignat, die vierzügige von Fr. Dubbe No. 22 und von L. Noack No.

40 im Berliner Problemturnier des deutschen Schachbundes 1881 er-

ste Preise erhalten.

Dubbe in

Rostock, Max Kürschner in Nürnberg, Hermann Lehner in Wien, Na-
debaum in Tessin, Fr.

„Frankfurter Schachzeitung.”

Einleitung

Man fi ndet in dieser Sammlung 1. Direkte Matte (zwei, drei und vier-
zügige Aufgaben), 2. Bedingungsaufgaben, 3. Selbstmatte, 4. Studien.
— Als Ergänzung zum Inhalt der Einleitung der ersten Sammlung
möge hier noch Folgendes erwähnt werden.

I. Nebenlösung. Doppelzug.

So würde dies

background image

Dufresne: Schachaufgaben

6

Aufgabe begegnet man einigen gleichgültigen Doppelzügen.

Nur 1. Dg8 führt zum dreizügigen Matt. Anwortet Schwarz 1. Ta7, so
entscheidet nur 2. Dh7; auf 1. Ta6 nur 2. Dg6. Auf 1. Ta3 jedoch kann
Weiß 2. Dg6 oder Dh7; auf 1. Ta2 2.
