TAPESCRIPT
Paul:
Hi, Mary, it’s great to see you again. How
are you? What’s been happening recently?
We haven’t seen each other for such a
long time.
Mary:
Paul, good to see you too. Well, to be
honest, things aren’t great. They say bad
things always come in threes. Well, I
guess it’s true!
Paul:
Why? What’s happened?
Mary:
Where do I start! Last Tuesday my car
was stolen, so I had to go to work by train.
If I hadn’t had to take the train, I wouldn’t
have been late. Of course, I missed an
important meeting. If I hadn’t left my
mobile phone at home, I would have been
able to call the office and tell my boss. Of
course, he didn’t know what had
happened so when I walked in he was
really angry. In fact he was so angry that
he told me to leave and never come back.
Paul:
That’s terrible! How could he do that?
It wasn’t your fault.
Mary:
Yes, but ... anyway ... I was so upset I left
my bag on the train going home. If I
hadn’t done that, I would have spent a
lot of money, so maybe that wasn’t such
a bad thing after all.
Paul:
It sounds pretty bad to me!
Mary:
Well, things can only get better, can’t
they?!
Paul:
True. Come on, let me buy you a drink.
Mary:
Good idea.
