Apple Hat (Newborn – 12 Months)
Materials
Yarn: Weight 4 (Medium worsted-weight) yarn.
Example picture made using Bernat Super Value in
Cherry Red, Vert Forest and Walnut.
Hook Size: H, or size needed for specified
Gauge: 3 dc stitches = 1”, 1.75 dc rows = 1”

Sts: Stitches / St: Stitch
Sl st: Slip stitch – insert hook through indicated st, yarn over and pull through st and loop on
hook.
Ch: Chain – yarn over and pull through loop on hook.

Leaf: Leaving a 3” tail, Ch 8 (picture 1), work the following sts into the back of the ch,
starting with the first st from your hook (picture 2): sl st, sc, hdc, dc, dc, tc, 2tc, tc ch 3
and sl st to join into last st in row (Picture 3).
Turn to begin working on the opposite, mirror side and work the following sts into the same sts
just worked: ch 3 and tc, 2tc, tc, dc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st, then ch 1 (picture 4). Work 1 sl st
into each st across left side of leaf (Picture 5). When you reach the center where first end tail
is (picture 6) cut work at least 3” and fasten (picture 7).
Use end tails of stem and leaves to tie to your apple hat. Place where desired.
