Materials – Step from Austermann 
Austermann75% Wool superwash, 25% Polyamid, each ball = approx 420 m/ 100 g 
200 g Color #183 yellow-green, 200 g Color #185 lilac-fuchsia 
 
Knitting needles, one pair each sizes 3 and 5 mm (US 3 and 8) from Schoeller + Stahl 
Knitting Nancy (Spool) 

 

Take time to check gauge! (Change needle size if necessary) 
Basic Pat 1: (Gauge 25 sts and 34 rows = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4”) 
St st with 3 mm (US 3) needles, knit loosely ! 
 
Basic Pat 2: (Gauge 18 sts and 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4”) 
St st with 5 mm (US 8) needles, knit loosely ! 
 
Instructions: 
There are several straight strips work, which are intertwined at the end at irregular 
intervals. 
1st Strip: Cast on 29 sts with yellow-green and 5 mm (US 8) needles and work in Basic Pat 
2 for 140 cm/55”. Bind off. 
2nd Strip: Cast on 17 sts with yellow-green and 3 mm (US 3) needles and work in Basic 
Pat 1 for 140 cm/55”. Bind off. 
3rd Strip: Cast on 17 sts with lilac-fuchsia and 3 mm (US 3) needles and work in Basic Pat 1 for 140 cm/55”. Bind off. 
4th Strip: Cast on 17 sts with lilac-fuchsia and 3 mm (US 3) needles and work in Basic Pat 1 for approx 17 cm/6 ½”, then 
alternate 17 cm/6 ½” with yellow-green and 17 cm/6 ½” with lilac-fuchsia in Basic Pat 1 until total length is 150 cm/59”. Bind off. 
5th Strip: Cast on 12 sts with yellow-green and 3 mm (US 3) needles and work in pats as foll: P3, K6, P3. Work the center 6 K 
sts as foll: every 10th row work cable as foll: slip 3 sts to cable needle (cn) and hold to back of work, K3, then K3 from cn. After 
approx 150 cm/59” from beg, bind off.With Knitting Nancy make 2 cords in lilac-fuchsia and 1 cord in yellow-green each approx 
200 cm/79” long. 
 
Finishing:Following photo, braid the strips tog loosely, then weave through the cords. Leave approx 20 – 30 cm/8 – 12” at both 
ends at irregular intervals.  Sew both ends of knit strips tog.Make two 6 cm/2 ½” Pompons each in lilac-fuchsia, in yellow-green 
and mixed colors and attach to end of knit cords.
