Pattern Notes

Odd rows are Right Side rows

unless otherwise stated.

When changing colors, complete the

stitch with the new color.

Drop/push/pull all unused strands to

the Wrong Side of your work.

Do not stitch over unused strands.

Float behind your work.

There will be reminders to join

separate balls of color or when you are
finished with a certain color for that area

Leave long enough beginning and

ending tails to sew or otherwise secure
later.

The increases and decreases are

made along the edges only.

Pattern is written with color changes

understood. You will complete the last stitch
of a series with the next (color) in the
pattern step.

Right Ear refers to the

cat’s right, not

the crocheter’s. His right is always his right
even if we are looking at the back of him.

Eyes (make 2)
E hook
1. (Iris color) Make 14dc in a Magic Circle.
Pull the tail to close the circle. Join with a
slst to beginning dc. Pull the tail again if
needle to close. FO E. (14dc)
2. Join Black in the Back Loop of any stitch.
Slst BLO in each stitch around. Cut yarn
with a long tail, but do not FO as usual.
Pull the tail of the long loop through and
thread onto your needle. Sew beneath the
legs of the first stitch and pull the yarn
through carefully so as not to curl or loosen
the stitch. Sew down through the last slst
made. The black now looks like a
continuous ring of stitches with no beginning
or end.
3. To embroider the Pupil, Sew up from the
back at one edge then straight across the
Iris to make a centered line. Make another
stitch just like it on either side of the first for
a total of 3 lines. FO black.
4. With color C, repeat the all of the same
steps of the previous round to get another
seamless round of color.

5. Add eye glints with white- make 2 small
stitches in the same spot near the top edge,
hen a single stitch a little below.
6. Turn the eye over; knot the strands in
pairs and trim. Leave a long tail for sewing.

(25sc, 1slst)

8.

– 9. Sc in each stitch around. At end of

round 9, FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Snout Embroidery
Nose
Working across the top point of the inverted

heart, embroider the nose in desired
color as follows:

A. Make 3 of 4 short satin stitches across.

Make more if needed to fill any gaps.

B. Add a short downward stitch to each side

to begin the shaping of the outer
edge.

C. Stitch a series of long and short stitches

to smooth out the curve along the
side and around the top arch of the
nose.

Mouth
The mouth should always start with a
straight line centered from the nose and the
take on whatever shape you choose. It does
not necessarily have to be symmetrical- you
can give him a smirky lip snarl on one side if
you like.

Face Assembly and Embroidery
Before doing anything else, you should turn
the face over and secure and trim any ends.
Be careful not to pull and misshapen, but
you can simply knot 2 strands together so
they won’t loosen up with future wear and
washing. You do not need to trim the ends,
but you may find it easier to do any
assembly or embroidery on the face if those
wild ends are out of the way.

Once the back of the head is tidied, sew the
snout to the face. Position snout centered
on the lower half of the face, the bottom
edge lined up with the top of row 3. Be sure
to maintain the snout’s shape (an inverted
heart shape with will sometimes look more
like a triangle with rounded corners). Stuff
lightly before closing.

Eyes should be positions right against the
snout, the bottoms of the eyes sitting at the
top of row 6 of the face. Be sure to get the
pupils positioned correctly.

At this time you should embroider any
additional markings or expressions. Be sure
to add the M eyebrows for the Tabby!

Head Assembly
G hook, Color A,

Small Tuft Stitch:
*Sc in the next stitch, ch3, slst 2

nd

chain

from hook, slst in the next chain. Sc in next
stitch of row. Ch5. Slst in 2

nd

ch from hook

and in next 3 chains.* Repeat from * as
needed.

Tips:

Since you will be able to tuck all the

ends and no need to sew them in, I
recommend changing colors to match
each color as you reach it.

Always stitch with the face toward you.

The front side of the sc is a lot neater
than the back of it, especially if you are
working into a different color.

Always stitch around the ears in the

color to match the back of the ears.

Change colors in the normal way by

completing the sc with the new color.

Change colors at a sc of the tuft stitch,

completing the sc, the chain, and the
slst’ing with the new color.

In some cases, such as changing colors

just for the ears, you can carry the
dropped color BETWEEN the layers and
then pick it up again when needed.

Instructions:

Lay Face Right Side down and by

placing Wrong Sides Together, match
Top of Head and Chin to the Face.

Pin the pieces very carefully together,

matching edges.

Start crocheting at the beginning of a

color rather than in a specific place.
Stuff any ends inside as you go.

With the Face facing you, stitch through

both layers, all around the head. Use
the corresponding color as explained at
the top and these stitches:

Sc all around the face, increasing (3sc in
the same stitch) to make the top points of
the ears.

Optional: Place 1 or 2 Small Tuft Stitches
(described to the left) at the pointy cheeks.

Join with a slst to beginning stitch.

Turn head wrong side out and

tied/secure any ends, being careful not
to misshapen. Tuck any ends that are
left inside.

With matching yarn, stitch across the

head, through both layers, to close the
ears off so they will remain unstuffed.
Stitch at an angle just below the inner
ear color. Repeat for other side and sew
ends.

Stuff head, being sure to shape the

pointy cheeks. Do not overstuff. Think of
the head as a pillow attached to the
blanket, so it should be puffy but not
round.

Match the open edges on the back of

the head and pin together if desired.
Proceed to Blanket.

Blanket
I hook, Begin with color A, adding in color B
for striping.

At the back of the head, close seam by
crocheting across as follows:

Whiskers

Thread a long strand of desired color

onto your needle.

Sew back and forth crossways through

the sides of the snout, leaving long
loops.

Cut the loops to make separate strands.

Tie slip knots against the snout for each

whisker. Trim evenly.

For multi-color whiskers, sew individual

strands.

Blankie Finishing

Sew arms to the top sides of the

blanket, a couple rows from the top.

Sew legs at the bottom, with about a

leg’s width between them. The outer
edge of the legs should line up about
where that bottom row of 17 stitches
begins and ends.

Sew the tail centered on the back,

positioned to where the end of the tail
hangs even with the feet.

Sew on any/all patches using the long

tail you left on the last round.

Sew in any ends that are left.

Add any embroidery detail.
