The Inayan System of Eskrima
The Inayan System of Eskrima (ISE) is called a system because it encompasses more than one
style of the Eskrima arts. It has been developed to provide the student with the best all round
knowledge and skill to become an accomplished practitioner. It has at its core of fighting styles
three of the most formidable styles in the Philippine Martial Arts. The beginning styles are also
powerful styles in their own right.
A style is a set of techniques that contain a viable and practical mode of defense against
attacks and does not need to borrow from any other technology or method. These styles are
also complete and effective against opposing methods and styles when applied properly, and if
studied adequately.
Some of the the styles in the Inayan System of Eskrima are:
Inayan Serrada (to "Shut or Close")
Inayan Serrada is a medium to close range style. Serrada stylists use an 18" to 26" weapon
(stick) (46-66cm), depending on the physical stature of an individual. The weapon techniques
can be translated into hand to hand applications very effectively. In the Inayan System of
Eskrima, it is the most important of the core styles.
Inayan Larga-Mano ("Long hand")
Inayan Larga-Mano is a long range style of combat employing a 26" to 40" weapon(66-
100cm). The Inayan Larga Mano Style of Eskrima uses a fourty inch weapon and is
representative of the "Kampilan Sword". We include the staff and spear (Sibat-Bankow)
training in this curriculum. Larga-Mano is one of the core styles in the Inayan System of
Eskrima.
Inayan Kadena De Mano ("Chain of Hands")
Inayan Kadena-De-Mano is a short range style of combat employing an 8" to 18" weapon (20-
45). Emphasis is on bladed (Knife) weapon, hand to hand and grappling aspects of combat. It
is a core style in the Inayan System of Eskrima.
Inayan Sinawali ("Pattern or Weaving")
The theory of this style of training can be employed at different ranges. The weapons can vary
in length and can be inter-mixed. It is usually practiced with two weapons (sticks) of equal
length. The Inayan Sinawali style is good for people who are starting out in the art of Eskrima
since it is very easily taught to beginners. Although this style is easy to learn, it is not so easy
to master.
Inayan Dequerdas (
"
The Cord
"
or
"
To Cord
"
)
Dequerdas is a medium range style that uses reinforced blocking with the off or shield hand on
the weapon. It is similar to the style of Modern Arnis. It is a simple but effective method of
defense and is easily taught to beginners as well as individuals who do not want to dedicate
much time to the study of weapons defense and offense.
Inayan Espada-E-Daga (
"
Sword and Dagger
"
)
This is a medium to close range style of combat. Not recommended for beginners, students in
the Inayan System of Eskrima do not seriously study this style without first becoming
proficient in the core styles.
The Inayan Training Organization
The Inayan Training Organization (ITO) is an association of individuals and schools interested
in broadening their martial arts and self-defense knowledge without infringing upon their
chosen style of training.
The ITO grew out of a perception, by Suro Mike Inay's travels throughout the United States
and abroad, that there are many individuals and schools across this country who are genuinely
interested in different aspects of martial arts and self-defense training that can blend with their
basic style of training, but do not know how or where to get it.
Mr. (Mike) Inay has traveled throughout the US giving seminars on edged weapon defense,
pressure sensitive nerve areas, Defensive Tactics (as used by law enforcement), and Eskrima
(Eskrima is a martial art from the Philippines). In his travels, Suro M. Inay has met hundreds
of individuals dedicated to the furtherance of excellence in martial arts training, self-defense,
and physical subject control. Many of these individuals are masters or experts in there own
chosen field (or style of martial arts). They have all expressed an interest in learning and
acquiring more martial arts knowledge from Suro Inay. They have also expressed a willingness
to share their knowledge with others.
The ITO Staff and Associate Instructors are versed in many different aspects of martial arts
and self-defense training. If your school is interested in practical edged weapon defense, there
is an ITO seminar designed just for you. Or, if you would like to have some hands on
instruction in grappling techniques, there are several other seminars available as well. For
instance, our Pressure Sensitive Nerve Areas is another popular seminar that students and
instructors are interested in.
If your goal is to add an ongoing program for weapons training there is curriculum available for
that also. The Inayan Training Organization not only brings to your school new and exciting
martial arts and self-defense knowledge, but it can also show you how to increase your
revenue and improve student retention just by adding the new and exciting ITO curriculum to
your existing program.

programs offered through the Inayan Training Organization, please contact us at 408-866-
