First things first: Fridge did not break up. Shortly after the 2001 release of their breakthrough album,

Happiness, guitarist Kieran Hebden saw his Four Tet side-project balloon into an unexpected full-time gig,

touring with Radiohead, Animal Collective, Prefuse 73, Explosions In The Sky and more, and spending

what little spare time he had remixing everyone from Coldplay and Bloc Party to Madvillain and Beth

Orton. With Hebden’s hectic schedule pulling him away from Fridge duties, bassist Adem Ilhan seized the

opportunity to pursue his solo endeavors, releasing a pair of gorgeous folk albums – and touring with the likes

of Badly Drawn Boy, Hot Chip and a resurrected Fairport Convention – before being invited by David

Byrne to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime collaborative event in early 2007 at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Meanwhile, drummer Sam Jeffers relocated to America to pursue his Masters Degree in Public Policy at

Harvard University.

In short: the trio have been busy doing everything but playing together as Fridge, but that all changes with the

long-awaited release of The Sun – a dense, aggressive album that casually blends post-punk, left-field funk,

free jazz, folk, noise and Krautrock into one sound that, despite the years and each individual’s development,

is unmistakably trademark Fridge. Through all the changes over the years, the members of Fridge have

remained as close as ever; ensuring that while there can never be another Fridge, there will always be

another Fridge record.
