ZigZag Moebius Cowl

The cowl is knitted using the
moebius cast on technique, which
is easy to learn. The yarn is
knitted on bigger needles than
usual giving a lovely draping
fabric. You could use any Aran
weight yarn you wish.

Moebius; a loop with a half twist
in it, it has one never ending
edge. This is a great shape for a
cowl and a clever knitting trick!

Yarn:

170m (186yrds) Aran weight (Rowan Pure Wool Aran 1ball)

Needles:

6mm long circular needle

Gauge:

17st/4inches in stocking stitch.
Row gauge not critical.

Using Cat Bordhi's Moebius Cast On, Cast on 96 stitches.

Knit 96 stitches.
Place marker – this is now the beginning of the round.

Round 1: *yo, K6, k2tog,* repeat to marker, slip marker.
Rounds 2-8: Repeat Round 1, keeping marker between k2tog and yo.

Round 9: Knit to marker, slip marker.

Round 10: *p2tog, p6, yo,* repeat to marker, slip marker.
Round 11-17: Repeat Round 10, keeping marker between yo and p2tog.

Round 18: Purl to marker, slip marker.

Repeat Rounds 1-9 once more.
(If you want a deeper cowl you could then continue and repeat Rounds 10-18.)

Edging
Round 1: purl to marker.
Round 2: knit to marker.
Round 3: purl to marker.

Cast off - My preferred method for casting off to achieve a stretchy edge is to;
*Slip 1 stitch knit-wise to right needle, knit the first 2 stitches on the right needle
together through back of loops,* repeat until 1 stitch remains on right needle, tie
off.
If you prefer to cast off loosely or on larger needles you can.

Sew in ends.
Block if desired.

Abbreviations:
k – knit
p – purl
yo – yarn over
k2tog – knit 2 stitches together
p2tog – purl 2 stitches together
