Stopniowanie przymiotników krótkich polega na dodawaniu końcówek „–er” w stopniu 
wyższym oraz przedimka określonego „the” i końcówki „–est” w stopniu najwyższym. W 
zależności od stopnia przymiotnika wygląda to następująco:  
 
Adjective - (St. równy) 

Comparative - (St. wyższy) 

Superlative – (St.najwyższy) 

Short 

Shorter

Tall 

Taller 

The tallest 

Big 

Bigger

Zapamiętaj! 
 

  Przymiotniki kończące się na dwóch spółgłoskach lub dwóch samogłoskach i 

spółgłosce przyjmują przy stopniowaniu końcówki: w stopniu wyższym –er, a w 
stopniu najwyższym –est 

Ex. Long, smooth, clean 
 
  Przymiotniki kończące się na –e, w stopniu wyższym przyjmują samo –r, a w stopniu 

najwyższym –st  

Ex. Nice, safe, wide  
 
  Dużo przymiotników kończy się na pojedynczą samogłoskę i pojedynczą spółgłoskę -

wtedy podwajamy spółgłoskę i dodajemy końcówki: w stopniu wyższym - er, a w 
stopniu najwyższym –est 

Ex. Fat, flat, thin 
 
  Jeżeli przymiotniki kończą się na –y to –y zamieniamy w –i, a potem dodajemy 

końcówki: w stopniu wyższym - er, a w stopniu najwyższym –est 

Ex. Early, happy, funny 
 
  iektóre dwusylabowe przymiotniki mogą przybierać formy wyższe albo przez 

dodanie końcówek –er/-est albo przez użycie more i the most (bardziej, 
najbardziej) 

 
A oto kilka takich przymiotników: 
Clever, pleasant, gentle, narrow, shallow, simple, tired.  

 
 

 
Stopniowanie przymiotników długich jest o wiele prostsze, gdyż tu nie dodajemy już 
końcówek, a samodzielne wyrazy bezpośrednio przed przymiotnikiem: more (bardziej; 
stosowane do przymiotników stopniu wyższym) i the most (najbardziej; stosowany do 
przymiotników stopniu najwyższym)

Stopniowanie przymiotników nieregularnych 
Są też takie przymiotniki, których form nie da się utworzyć według powyższych reguł i te 
przymiotniki po prostu trzeba „wykuć” na pamięć. Poniżej znajduje się lista przymiotników, 
które zazwyczaj sprawiają najwięcej trudności:
