Read the questions and answers below. Then answer each question for yourself. Try to use the
phrases in bold.
1. Is it important to be able to cook? Why? Why not?
Susan: Well, I’m a good cook myself and I’ve been interested in cooking ever since I was a little girl. Personally,
I think it’s an important skill. If you live on your own or study away from home, you either have to cook for
yourself or go to fast food restaurants because the really good restaurants are usually too expensive. And for
me, it’s also a good way to relax after a hard day.

2. Will online shopping become more popular? Why? Why not?
Robert: Definitely, it’s already a very popular form of shopping although I’m not very enthusiastic about it.
I buy only small, inexpensive items on the Net like books, gifts or computer games but I don’t think I’d like to
order something really expensive. In my view, it’s still a bit risky because you may be cheated and lose your
money. I also think it’s more troublesome to make a complaint if goods are faulty. So on the whole, I don’t think
online shopping will become much more popular than it already is.

3. Is a cycling holiday an attractive form of travelling? Why? Why not?
Dave: In my opinion, a cycling holiday is one of the best ways to have a holiday for a few reasons. Firstly, you
combine travelling with keeping fit because cycling is a wonderful exercise for the whole body and keeps in
good shape. Secondly, cyclists are green tourists – they don’t pollute the environment. And lastly, you’re free
to go wherever you want, you’re not limited by plane schedules and in this way you can see much more of the
countryside.

4. Do you agree that fewer young people are interested in the arts nowadays? Why? Why not?
Helen: As for me, the arts play an important role in my life, especially music and performing arts. I’m not
really into painting or sculpture, but I sometimes go to our local art gallery if there’s a new exhibition. But
I guess it’s true that these days fewer young people go to the theatre or art exhibitions. That’s partly because
of TV and the Internet but I also think that many young people are just too lazy to go out and see a play or an
exhibition. On the other hand, however, music concerts are still very popular.
