Type of school: primary, grades 1-3
Type of activity: individual work, pair
work
Focus: Easter - related vocabulary (Easter,
Easter Monday, Easter Sunday, egg dying,
Easter cards, Easter traditions, wishes,
etc.)
Level/age group: grade 3, writing skills
required
Time: 45 minutes
Preparation:
1.Photocopy the worksheets:
Worksheet 1 one per pupil
Worksheet 2 one per pupil
2.During the previous lesson, ask the
children to find out about Easter traditions
practised in their family.
3.Make sure the children have their crayons
ready for the lesson.
Procedure:
1. Introduce the topic of the lesson. Talk
about the usual ways of spending Easter in
English-speaking countries. Then ask the
children about Easter traditions practised in
their families. Write the ideas on the board.
2. Use Worksheet 1 (one per pupil). Tell the
children to complete the table rewriting the
information from the board, and grading it
from 1 to 10, (from the most to the least
favourite one). Assist the pupils in writing
down the information when necessary.
Finally, ask each of them to present his/her
top ten list to the class.
3. Ask the children about the reasons for
their “No 1 choices”.
Distribute Worksheet 2 (one per person) and
ask them to illustrate their favourite Easter
tradition. When the children are ready with
the pictures, have them work in pairs, where
one shows the picture and the other guesses
the activity/tradition drawn.
Extension/Follow-up:
Ask the pupils to swap places and do the
picture guessing among new groups/pairs.
