J’ATTENDRAI
Key: C
Tempo: 180 bpm
Number of choruses: 6
Arrangement:

Improvisation tips:
This song is unusual in that it is through-composed (no repetition in the form) and 29 bars long.
It remains relatively straightforward with only a temporary key change to Dm in the middle
section. When improvising over the Dm chromatic descending pattern, you can choose to outline
the exact changes, or simply improvise over Dm regardless of extensions. Both approaches
should be practiced.
In bar 4, Django used an F7 chord. In this version, we are using B7 which serves the same
function. When improvising over this chord -regardless of which chord the rhythm section uses-
both chords work equally well. In fact, using the opposite chord will yield an interesting effect
(F7 against B7 or B7 against F7).
The C/E chord in measure 6 can be omitted and replaced with a full bar of Ebdim7 or A7 to lead
into the Dm. The Ebdim7 does not replace any dominant chord as diminished chords often do. In
this case, it is what jazz theorists refer to as a bIII diminished chord; it is a chromatic passing
chord between C/E and Dm.
